I posted pictures of my newest tattoos in Bon Voyage and a few people suggested a tattoo thread. Anyhow, here is a spot to post pictures and talk about any tattoos and piercings or anything else you may class as body modification.
As far as tattoos go I have the tops of both feet done in an Alice in Wonderland theme and those photos can be seen in my Bon Voyage post. I also have the backs of both calves tattooed with cupcakes. We just touched up one of them this weekend so I will take new pictures and post those soon.
I also have a lot of piercings including:
0 ga. inner conch in my right ear
Bunch of other ear work including industrial, tragus and orbitals.
Face: bridge, both nostrils, septum, philtrum, both cheeks, lip, tongue x 2, tongue web
Body: nipples, navel and 5 genital piercings.
My body is an ongoing project and next up is some jewelry changes for my cheeks, a set of labrets (below lip), stretching some piercings. As far as tattoos, I am probably done until I relocate to British Columbia. I have a chest piece and a leg piece planned.
So if tattoos and piercings are your thing, please post away, let me know what you have, post pictures!
I don't have anything quite as elaborate as B_C, but here's mine:
I don't have a picture of my first tattoo, but it's a tribal butterfly on my lower back. I know...it's a little cliche, but to be fair, my name is Greek for butterfly in every name book I've ever looked at. So at least I have a good excuse.
My second one I got when I graduated college. Daffodils are my favorite flower and symbolize a "new beginning" in a way, so that's why I went with it. Also, it's not as fuzzy as it looks in the picture. It's just bad photography on my part. Location: my left hip, towards the front.
My third I got on a whim after a terrible day at work. It was my first week at my first post-college job. I just liked it...no real symbolism there. Again, this one looks better in person. It's difficult to take a close up picture of your own hip...Location: my right hip, kind of like he's crawling toward my belly button.
My fourth has been the bane of my existence. It's never been right and has been re-done multiple times, and worked on by 4 different people. What's worse is that it's the most visible of all of my tattoos since it covers my foot. I get compliments on it, but I'm not happy with it and there's not much else I can do at this point.
And here's my last one. This is another one I just saw and loved. I saw a similar one in a flash book and made some modifications to make it look more like my first cat, changed the style of the stars, etc. This one and the frog are my favorites. (Please ignore the horrid floral shirt. It's all I had at the time that left it visible.)
That's it for me. I don't have anything else planned right now. My husband wants to get more (he's only got 2 right now and needs to catch up), so I'll probably just get the ones I have touched up before I think about anything new. I'd like to maybe add to the tribal butterfly on my back. Other than that, not sure what else I would want. After the horrible experience with my foot, I'm wary of making any changes or additions.

I LOVE the foot tattoo! I think it's the best of the bunch- what don't you like about it?
I'd be into piercings, as tats are too permanent and I'm not good with commitment- lol, but I have a sensitivity to many metals that makes it difficult to do anything so I've just got my ears. I'd like a small nose stud and some ear piercings, but I have to wear titanium or platinum (titanium is cheaper so the few earrings I have are titanium) so I haven't done anything. I just love seeing the work everyone else has and getting ideas

I think I dislike it just because it's been such a problem from the time I got it. I made the mistake of going to someone I didn't have any references for when I had the initial work done. It was terrible. At that point it was just the blue flower in the front and the vines going down the sides (no butterfly or additional flowers). It looked like it had been drawn on with a colored pencil. There was no outline, and no shading. Plus the guy went way too deep and used crappy ink. Then I had it re-done about a year later and it was a lot better. The new guy added some outlines and shading and touched things up, but didn't add anything. I should have just let it go at that, but I thought it needed a little something more to make it complete. So I went to visit a friend in AZ who was into tattoos and was apprenticing at a shop out there. I took his word that the owner would be a good one to get to add on to it. He's the one who added the butterfly (which is larger than I originally wanted) and this weird orange and yellow swirly thing that we did not discuss ahead of time. It was pretty hideous and didn't match the rest of the tattoo at all. Basically, we talked about one thing and he did something completely different. When I moved to Portland I got the cover-up done. I should have gone back and had her do some final touch ups, but never got around to it. The cover isn't bad, but it's not great either, so I've never been crazy about it. It's more obvious "in person" than it is in the picture. The tattoo is tolerable overall at this point, but it's just not what I had in mind from the beginning. Maybe someday I'll find a good artist that can fix it up once and for all.
Sorry for the long explanation. It's just been a long journey with that tattoo (and an expensive one as well). It's nice to hear that someone likes it though. Makes me less annoyed with it.

Lol, that's ok. I really like it. I think it looks well done. Maybe you're too critical because it's your foot

I want a tattoo badly, but I haven't yet found anything I like. I think I'd be far too fussy anyway for any tattoo artist to ever want to work on me.
I've had my nipples and my navel pierced, but took them out. I've always wanted to get my eyebrow done, but didn't do it in college when I could have gotten away with it, and now I'm out of luck. I used to have the upper cartilage in my left ear done, but have let that one go. I am thinking of redoing it, though. It'd be easy enough to get away with in my line of work.
As for my tattoos, my Brian Froud faery is my first. I got her in 2000. My dad is covered in tattoos, and I always figured I'd probably get one/some, but never really went looking to do it until I came across this faery in a book. I sat on the picture for a year to be sure and then went for it.
I got my second one about a month or so before I deployed in 2005. She's on my left thigh/hip and is about nine inches long. Before Myspace and facebook, there was one other internet community I frequented as much as WKYN/NK! and I asked the artist of
this piece for permission to get it as a tattoo. She said I could, but not to get an exact replica. I took the picture to an artist who specialized in pin-up art, and that's how I ended up with her:
I'd love to get another tattoo, and I know the faery I'd want, but I'm not sure I am willing to put him on my left shoulder blade (to even out the blue one which is not centered) because DH and I attend fancy-pants functions for work at least twice a year and I don't know that I want to contend with all that... I love how that placement looks in tanktops and sun dresses, but am not so sure about I feel when it's in formal wear.
Also, I like the one on your foot, vanessa. I think it's very nice. I've always liked the crawling vine thing in tattoos.
I have a tattoo on the back of my neck and two body percings. i want to get another tattoo but it may be a while due to finances.
I got two new lip piercings today and I start my leg piece tomorrow- woot! We're inking 5 colourful lilies running up my right calf.
6 hours into my new piece. I have two more sessions to add colour and then we start filling in the rest of the leg!

Yay! I LOVE tattoos! Man, you guys have some gorgeous work. Here's my latest one...

Whoa...I didn't realize it was SO HUGE. Sorry...hehe...
That's adorable Julie! What else do you have?
Wow, you guys are a creative bunch. I have only 1 tat of a bee on my hip/butt.
Thanks, Bellis. I also have this one on my other ankle...
No, it's not Nemo. It's a clownfish, one of my favorite fish. I drew this design before Disney did their damn movie. Which I really like, by the way. Just hate Disney.
I'm now 17.5 hours into my leg piece... hopefully one more session and it should be done!

That's really pretty! I don't think I've really seen reds, oranges and yellows in tats before! It looks awesome!
When I was in my 20's (*cough29and1/2cough*) I got one nipple pierced after a co-worker said I was "too conservative." I couldn't handle the pain so I only got the one done. It migrated out about a year or so ago and I no longer have it.
Just two weeks ago I got my first tattoo ('Las Vegas 2008' thread in the Coffee Shop). I'm not sure what else I'll do, but like Daria, I've always wanted my eyebrow pierced, but at 40...well, it wouldn't suit me, professionally speaking.
I may get another Star Trek tattoo - the seal for the United Federation of Planets, or something like that...
