Just got back from the beach where I had a couple of delicious frozen drinks & some wonderful shrimps!! YUM!!
I finally got a job. It's only a small break from my unemployment. I'll be working for three days in May, for the municipal elections. It's a chance to get more experience and any amount of it is good.
There is a sparrow nest right outside the bathroom window! There are three little baby birds in it. The nest is inside the box part of a satellite dish that is sitting on top of a 4 foot metal post - exactly the right height to see the little birds from my bathroom window. They are about 2 feet away.

I keep the bathroom door closed and crack the window a teeny tiny bit so I can check on them from time to time. I should take a picture of them. They are stretching their wings and starting to resemble actual birds. Their little bird chirps are very high pitched, quite distinct from adult bird singing.

The satellite dish is on the side of the house where my dogs like to play chase, so I blocked it off. I didn't want the baby birds to be on the ground, learning to fly, and then my dogs come along and eat them. Since I have done this, I like to refer to the bird nest and that area as my very own bird sanctuary.

That's so cool! Please take pictures and post them, I want to see the baby birds!

I posted them under their own thread. Sorry, they didn't turn out so great. I'll try again at another time.
At 43, I finally have my AA degree in liberal arts. Yay!! Next year I am going to a regular university to pursue a degree in social work. GraduateHifive
Hey, congratulations on your degree!!! Best wishes in pursuing your social work one next.Smile

PrairieGirl

Yay Opilies!! Congrats!
Opilies... that is fantastic! Your age is mostly irrelevant, think of it this way: what age would you be if you didn't do your degree?!

My happy moment... I have new room-mates and we are getting along well, and I had my neighbour over for dinner tonight and everyone (neighbour, room-mates, and random friends I met on the street) had a great time!
Congratulations Opi!!!

I was 26 when I got my AA and I still don't have a BA.

It's funny, my last employer thought I was OVER-qualified because I had a 2 year degree (yes, really- wtf?) my current employer requires a BA for all entry level positions and up except security guards and attendants. I happened to slip by and get interviewed because of my experience. One of our grant writers just received her PhD last week and another writer will receive her MA from Stanford this month (her undergrad is from Harvard) Not only is everyone surprised when I say "I don't have a degree" when it comes up in conversations, but they are very encouraging of my going back to school to finish something- which is more than I can say for any coworker or family member past or present.

You CAN do it- and your age is irrelevant! Smile

Pep talk over!

My good news is that I got an employee review today and received "exceptional" and "Exceeds expectations" for all categories. Instead of a review about all the things I did or do wrong it was all the things I do right and well and how they want me to use them in the future.

I admit it's not something I'm terribly interested in, but it's nice to know I'm appreciated!
We're going to see Eddie Izzard tonight!!!!!
Wooohoooooooo!

So now that I'm "permanent" as a Parole Officer and at the prison of my choice (been doing the job for the last 3 years, 10 years as a guard before that so I'm an Indeterminate employee, but was 'acting' in my current position).

I've decided to move to Next Town Over where I work 'cause right now I'm 30-45 minutes away and the cost of gas runs me $300 a month.

So last weekend I viewed a few townhouses and LOVED this particular one. It's listed for $315k and today I wrote an offer. Almost 2000 sq. ft., 3 levels, 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, central vac, central air, security system, and it's HUGE HUGE HUGE!!! I hope beyond hope I get the place 'cause I absolutely could see myself living there - and it's only 5 km (3 mi) from work. I can ride my bike or even walk to work!!

Today I spent 6 hours scrubbing up my place 'cause my RE agent has someone interested in MY place already and they want to view it this week. My list price for my 2 bedroom, 1100 sq. ft. ranch townhouse is $269k.

I've been sprinkling pixie dust all over the place today and I hope beyond hope this works out.
I'm working for the municipal election these days. I worked last Saturday and today, I still have one day to an it's next week. I do nothing but putting ballots in a vote tabulation machine. I'm really happy that I'll have a really good pay at the end of it. It's going to be the highest hourly wage that I ever earned, well so far.

Thanks everyone!! Ziggy: I would be 43 without having to have sat as a student next to 18- and 20-somethings text-messaging and being young silly adults for two years. Wink
Good luck Fiona!

Thanks Kirby - they countered, as expected, so I'm going to counter the counter and if they get 'difficult' I'll let it the offer die on the table. There is one item in the actual listing as being included but they took it out of the counter-offer, saying 'nope - can't have it' (new gas stove) unless I pay $4k over my offer.

I did let an offer die on the table 4 years ago when I was moving here, with a particularly fussy older woman and 6 weeks later her RE calls my RE to ask if I was still interested - she dropped her asking 10k and "suddenly realized" my offer was the best she got so far.

I think my offer was fair, with a little wiggle room - it's assessed at $294k so I went up halfway and offered them $306k (willing to go up to $308k), but contravene the actual listing? Don't fuck around with me - you wanna play hardball? Honey, I'm the MASTER!!

Here's the listing:

Sweet!!
I get to be lucky #100 and start a new page on this thread CHHobanim

I am leaving for a trip tomorrow morning and am in the middle of packing. I look forward to the trip but I also look forward to when I finish packing!

Oops. Sorry. My bad.

Is this THE trip you've been talking about?????
That's awesome! It looks great! I wish most townhomes around here had private yards Sad

Houses down here aren't selling very well. We'd really like to move in town but houses cost twice as much (at least, and those are still less than the house you're selling but houses here are really cheap) and we wouldn't be able to afford it unless we sold this house at top dollar right now.

Anyway- good luck with all that! I hope you get the house and a great offer on yours Smile
Congrats on the job, Dolyne! And Fiona - on the house!

And Ziggy - have a great trip!!
