First they get rid of swings on the playground, then they ban Tag at school, next PE is deamed non-academic, finally they tell kids to stay indoors because crazy kidnappers/rabid dogs/rusty nails/allergens/cars may get them...

and now they have actual ads reminding kids to PLAY.
wtf?!

This commercial (along with some food pyramid thing) have been playing non-stop the past few weeks. UGH

In addition to the commercial being stupid, even here in the golf capital of the world, kids don't give a flying flip about the LPGA. They may pay a little more attention if it were a musician or basketball player. Probably not
All good points. The problem is that parents helicopter over a child's life so much with play dates and making sure that the little league plays their child so it is fair. With computer games and other "educational" toys that walk a child through to the end process, there isn't much room for imagination.

Heavens loads of kids don't have to be reminded to play, they have to be taught.

My neighborhood was mostly boys in my age range. We played kickball and pirates and spaceship. Any disagreements was worked out between us. Plus we were thrown outside all the time if the weather was remotely decent.

I saw an article in the local paper about taking kids out to parks or forests since most kids don't have a connection to the outdoors any more. (I camped with family since I was 4-5)
