I can't talk about this anywhere - not FB, not blogging, no where but here.

My sister's husband's sister is having a baby. She lives on the opposite coast - so OK no problem, right? Well, she and her DH and the soon-to-be-hatched are moving close by.

You might think, well they aren't really close family - but they are the only family my sister's DH has in this country.

So here's my issue. From now on every family gathering will contain an infant. Then a toadler. And on and on. I thought we were through this when my sister's kids finally grew up and became old enough to be interesting. I'm really bummed. My family is very into getting together - holidays are important. Now it will all be sitting around staring at the "fireplace".

I just found out yesterday that they are moving here. I'm supposed to be happy about this. Ahem.
How big is the family? Surely you can hang with the old folks or in a separate room if it's big, and leave the oohers and ahhers to hang with the kid.

That does suck, though, any way you slice it up. I hate it when a perfectly good adult event is ruined by the presence of a kid.
I agree with Jo. There must be some way you can avoid the kid.

If not, and it really bothers you, don't attend the event.

There's no law that says you must attend every single family event.
I hope so. Our get-togethers have 10 people, now they will have 12 plus the loaf. The entire family has baby rabies. Even the men, sadly.

I think this is one more straw on the back of our doing so much family stuff. This Christmas was too much. We need to do our own thing more.

THAT sounds like a plan. ITA with the idea of making your OWN plans for the holidays. BUT, since 10 people are usually around for get togethers, I am sure you can find a way to avoid the loaf, lol
Goodluck and many hugs Hug I know how upsetting this must be for you. Hug
