Here was my Facebook status which sparked major outrage with one mother of human children. She's the girlfriend of my soon-to-be-ex-husband's cousin. She came to our wedding and didn't stay for reception, don't know her at all besides she has 2 kids and had one or both as a teenager.

Congratulations Kelly! I know how much you love your babies
and I only wish that all pet owners were as attentive and
compassionate as you. For my house, our cats are absolutely family as
well and are treated as such. Their well-being and happiness always
comes before mine; they are my furkids and I am blessed to have them
in my life! You are a great MUMMY and please keep up the good work!!

I'm a proud mummy to 3 gorgeous tigers who love me
unconditionally and are always there for me when I need them. Some
people should realize that not everyone is a "conventional" mother for
various reasons, including health, but our love and dedication to our
companion animals is just as great as the love they feel for their
"real" children, sometimes even GREATER when you read certain tragic
stories in the news. Keep loving your cats as much as you do, Kelly.
They ARE your kids: completely and totally dependent upon you for
love, food, shelter, and all other necessities of life.

You're right...SOME people ARE ignorant. Who are you to
say people don't give things up for their animals? We make sure they
are fed, happy, and healthy. Sometimes animals who have special needs require almost as much care as an actual child. Also, I have to wonder if you ran your mouth on other people's wall with the same status? Anyone can make a baby and become a mother, it doesn't mean you're any good at it! Do you speak up to the people who post this but don't actually do shit for their kids? Probably not...hypocrite.
Also, I'd just like to point out that I don't see anything in Kelly's
status about her comparing herself to HER mother.
I don't know. I am a sensitive person and huge animal lover. But my cats and rabbit are my life... no other "human mothers" are upset, only her... Do you consider cats your "children"?
Two more comments!

I have one final thing to say and typically I would never say this but you've pissed me off.
It's lucky for those "SOME" people who are "ignorant" that an IQ test isn't required for procreating....

Plenty of people view themselves as parents to their pets some of them even have human kids as well. It's really not unfair to people with human kids and nothing to get offended by. It's not a matter of money, it's not a matter of "long hours of childbirth". If that's what it takes to be a mother, I guess you must not consider people on welfare or people who adopt parents.
Also, there are people out there who DO have to pay for things like babysitters for their pets. Often, it's people who have dogs with separation anxiety- there's two choices for a dog with severe separation anxiety- you either pay for a babysitter, or you pay for doggy daycare. I've seen dogs with severe separation anxiety destroy crates, walls, doors, furniture, and flooring among other things.
I've watched people plunk down thousands of dollars on vet bills for a beloved pet and just shrug their shoulders and tell me how much their pet is worth it. I've had to do the same, and have faced financial ruin to keep an elderly pet comfortable until the very end- this includes making some very difficult sacrifices which I would happily do again if I had to. Why? Because they are so very worth it.
I've personally rearranged my schedule and gone on very limited sleep to save orphan kittens who need to be bottle fed ever few hours. I know more than one rescuer who does this DAILY ALL YEAR ROUND. It's extremely offensive to hear someone imply that people with pets don't work very hard for them. Especially when you consider the very difficult, sometimes heartbreaking work that rescuers do.
Do I consider myself a mom to my pets? Not so much, although I sometimes refer to them as kids. They're more like fuzzy, mooching roommates who don't pay bills, make more messes than they clean up and eat all the food. However, they do give me plenty of unconditional love and entertainment. They don't talk back, they don't whine or ask for expensive things we can't afford. The most expensive gaming system these guys will ever ask me for is a cardboard box. I would go whatever distance I had to to keep them safe, happy and healthy, and this includes having an evacuation plan if there's ever an emergency.
Some people are so ignorant of the hard work pet parents put forth for their furry kids.

I do catsitting for people. Dog kennels, cat hotels, petsitting, etc. People taking their animals to the vet in the middle of the night. I would never say it is the same as having human children but having companion animals is a big responsibility and choice. People can take care of their animals well, or they can neglect them... same goes for human children. This was never made to upset anyone.
I used to have all my companion animals and their birthdays listed on Facebook under "Children", and so did Jeremy at one time. I never received any comments about it upsetting people that we listed our companion animals as "Children" on Facebook. They have middle names and everything!
Having human children and having companion animals are big decisions in life!
There are people who take their animals to pictures with Santa and the Easter Bunny, just like you would with human children, usually as a fundraiser for an animal charity group. Does anyone get upset over that? I don't think so.

People who decide not to have children should get more respect. There are "parents" out there who have done awful things to children they didn't want. There is such a societal pressure to get married, have kids. Kids, kids, kids. It isn't the life for everyone, and is highly pressured. People should never have kids they don't want, but sometimes people crave to these pressures and think it's the right thing to do and bad things happen.
