Here was my Facebook status which sparked major outrage with one mother of human children. She's the girlfriend of my soon-to-be-ex-husband's cousin. She came to our wedding and didn't stay for reception, don't know her at all besides she has 2 kids and had one or both as a teenager.

Congratulations Kelly! I know how much you love your babies
and I only wish that all pet owners were as attentive and
compassionate as you. For my house, our cats are absolutely family as
well and are treated as such. Their well-being and happiness always
comes before mine; they are my furkids and I am blessed to have them
in my life! You are a great MUMMY and please keep up the good work!!

Cats are always there for you and to be
loved, and love you back. I miss my rabbit a lot, but love my cats.

I'm a proud mummy to 3 gorgeous tigers who love me
unconditionally and are always there for me when I need them. Some
people should realize that not everyone is a "conventional" mother for
various reasons, including health, but our love and dedication to our
companion animals is just as great as the love they feel for their
"real" children, sometimes even GREATER when you read certain tragic
stories in the news. Keep loving your cats as much as you do, Kelly.
They ARE your kids: completely and totally dependent upon you for
love, food, shelter, and all other necessities of life. Smile

Pfffttt some ppl are so ignorant of true mothers
and the hard work they put forth. Hmmm. I could work one hour a week
to put food on the table for my animals!! And no babysitter and no
long hours of childbirth!!!! U guys are fucked and selfish!!! Animals
are nothen but pets. U don't give ure life for a cat!! But I guess it
takes a real mother to know that!!! So sad that having a mother ure
self and seeing what they have done for u u can compare that to a
animal!! I love my pets with all my heart too. But they are no where's
near children and the things u give up to keep them happy!! I am a
real mother and proud to be!!! I know the difference!! I love my kids
and work very hard to keep them happy and heathly and am offended when my hard work is compared to ures of a cat!!!!

Kelly I am a REAL MOTHER AND SO ARE YOU, AND YOU TOO MARY JO!! Just ignore the negativeness and be proud of yourself. Some
people do not appreciate that everyone cannot, or chooses not, to be
the mother of a human baby for a multitude of...

You're right...SOME people ARE ignorant. Who are you to
say people don't give things up for their animals? We make sure they
are fed, happy, and healthy. Sometimes animals who have special needs require almost as much care as an actual child. Also, I have to wonder if you ran your mouth on other people's wall with the same status? Anyone can make a baby and become a mother, it doesn't mean you're any good at it! Do you speak up to the people who post this but don't actually do shit for their kids? Probably not...hypocrite.
Also, I'd just like to point out that I don't see anything in Kelly's
status about her comparing herself to HER mother.

I don't know. I am a sensitive person and huge animal lover. But my cats and rabbit are my life... no other "human mothers" are upset, only her... Do you consider cats your "children"?
Two more comments!

I have one final thing to say and typically I would never say this but you've pissed me off.

It's lucky for those "SOME" people who are "ignorant" that an IQ test isn't required for procreating....

Plenty of people view themselves as parents to their pets some of them even have human kids as well. It's really not unfair to people with human kids and nothing to get offended by. It's not a matter of money, it's not a matter of "long hours of childbirth". If that's what it takes to be a mother, I guess you must not consider people on welfare or people who adopt parents.

Also, there are people out there who DO have to pay for things like babysitters for their pets. Often, it's people who have dogs with separation anxiety- there's two choices for a dog with severe separation anxiety- you either pay for a babysitter, or you pay for doggy daycare. I've seen dogs with severe separation anxiety destroy crates, walls, doors, furniture, and flooring among other things.

I've watched people plunk down thousands of dollars on vet bills for a beloved pet and just shrug their shoulders and tell me how much their pet is worth it. I've had to do the same, and have faced financial ruin to keep an elderly pet comfortable until the very end- this includes making some very difficult sacrifices which I would happily do again if I had to. Why? Because they are so very worth it.

I've personally rearranged my schedule and gone on very limited sleep to save orphan kittens who need to be bottle fed ever few hours. I know more than one rescuer who does this DAILY ALL YEAR ROUND. It's extremely offensive to hear someone imply that people with pets don't work very hard for them. Especially when you consider the very difficult, sometimes heartbreaking work that rescuers do.

Do I consider myself a mom to my pets? Not so much, although I sometimes refer to them as kids. They're more like fuzzy, mooching roommates who don't pay bills, make more messes than they clean up and eat all the food. However, they do give me plenty of unconditional love and entertainment. They don't talk back, they don't whine or ask for expensive things we can't afford. The most expensive gaming system these guys will ever ask me for is a cardboard box. I would go whatever distance I had to to keep them safe, happy and healthy, and this includes having an evacuation plan if there's ever an emergency.

Some people are so ignorant of the hard work pet parents put forth for their furry kids.

I do catsitting for people. Dog kennels, cat hotels, petsitting, etc. People taking their animals to the vet in the middle of the night. I would never say it is the same as having human children but having companion animals is a big responsibility and choice. People can take care of their animals well, or they can neglect them... same goes for human children. This was never made to upset anyone.

I used to have all my companion animals and their birthdays listed on Facebook under "Children", and so did Jeremy at one time. I never received any comments about it upsetting people that we listed our companion animals as "Children" on Facebook. They have middle names and everything!

Having human children and having companion animals are big decisions in life!

There are people who take their animals to pictures with Santa and the Easter Bunny, just like you would with human children, usually as a fundraiser for an animal charity group. Does anyone get upset over that? I don't think so.

People need to be treated with respect...

People who decide not to have children should get more respect. There are "parents" out there who have done awful things to children they didn't want. There is such a societal pressure to get married, have kids. Kids, kids, kids. It isn't the life for everyone, and is highly pressured. People should never have kids they don't want, but sometimes people crave to these pressures and think it's the right thing to do and bad things happen.
Well at least everyone else stuck up for you.

Since you barely know this woman and you do only thru your ex, maybe it's time to delete her?
It's just an FB status - to act like you are taking her cred away is stupid. A woman who was truly devoted to her kids and loved being a parent would not need Facebook Status validation, nor would they care.
Some people may and do think of their pets as children - she can't change that in people or the world. She should stop being so insecure about her choice and move on. If she were truly secure in her choice and her role as a mother, she would need to say what she said.

I wish someone would comment with that!
This Crystal person needs to learn spelling and grammar. Ugh. My eyes hurt reading that.

Aside from that, parents to human children will always trump humans to animal children - in their own minds. AFAIC, if you're looking after a living, breathing person/animal, you have responsibilities which range from emotional to financial.

I spent $2,400 on one of my cats and her chances of survival were 50/50. People who don't have pets laughed at me and joked that they would never put that much money into "just a cat".

Well, then. Herein lies the difference between you and I. I value ALL life - not just human - and my cats mean the world to me.

Try not to let this Crystal person get to you. She feels superior to you and your family. To hell with her.

Oh, trust me, I did delete her. The private messages she sent me were worse. I said I was leaving my husband because he was meeting men for sex, obviously there were other issues but that's a big one. She accused me of "spreading lies about their family" and was really nasty to me. I was so pissed off that I sent her an e-mail that my ex exchanged back and forth with a guy! And then she said "If that's true, I am sorry for calling you a liar. WOW! I'm speechless."

I called my ex a coward and sent his dad an e-mail as well. Last night was my night! After holding everything all in, it was time for me to say a bunch of things so I did.

People at work laughed at me for getting my rabbit neutered! I took him to the vet to get his claws trimmed and everything. And people think it's outlandish. My mum has the same idea as I do, you choice to have companion animals and you must take care of them, they are living creatures and depend on you!!

Then after everyone laughed at me for neutering a rabbit they thought I'd be so good to human children and treat them royally!
pariso4, I am sorry about all the hit that you re going through. I am sorry that people are saying mean and nasty things to you. Ignorance is amazing.

I don't think it is funny that you got your rabbit neutered at all! I rescued 2 rabbits (early 90's) and one of the rabbits was mean as hell1 Use to bite AND kick ME (rabbit punch, lol!)! I was getting kind of scared of him.
So, I got him neutered. Totally changed his personality. He turned into a very friendly, loving rabbit.

It isn't silly at all! It is healthy for pets to be spayed/neutered, IMO.
OMG. That crystal woman is a psycho! So glad you deleted her. WTF? LOL!

If she's such a dedicated parent, perhaps she should step away from the keyboard and tend to her spawn?

Jen M.
I took a Veterinary Assisting course, and also from using a rabbit forum called Bunspace, and reading up on the topic... neutering/spaying rabbits is a really great idea. I go to an awesome Veterinarian and totally trusted her with my rabbit and my cats go to her as well. My rabbit used to chew on the wood along the bottom of the walls (the molding), and after he was neutered, he stopped that excessive chewing (what a relief). The urine has less of an odor afterwards.

I reposted the status and didn't receive any nasty comments at all, so obviously it was only HER problem.
This Crystal person has issues with being a mother. If a mother gets that defensive over someone celebrating their pets as children, then she is not that happy about being a mom. I feel sorry for her pets and kids. I bet they are awful children - just like her LOL! I bet her whole family lives in a tense environment every day. She said she has pets. I bet she dumps the worst of her baggage crap on those poor defenseless furries.
Seems like Crystal is totally insecure about her choices in life. If she was comfortable and proud as a mom she wouldn't be going off on someone else like that.
Wow! What a psycho! Glad you unfriended her!
Buh bye, Crystal! I think I would even block her. What a twit!
