Migraines.. Do you suffer from them? If so how severe is yours? If not, your very lucky indeed.
I have a horrible migraine right now. I took some Excedrin for migraines, & I am waiting for it to kick in.
Fortunately mine are not so severe that I get nauseous, TG
Or can't stand bright light.
Although at my age with my bad eyes bright light hurts me, no matter where I am, regardless of my head, lol.
But, right now my head really hurts big time.
I was quite surprised that no one made a thread about this topic.
I could have sworn I heard someone say they too suffer from Migraines.
Maybe it's in the whine section.
But, since it is health related. I thought I would
set one up here.
So, come on fellow Migraine sufferer's
Now's your chance to tell us how bad your migraines get? And how often do you get them.
I would say I average about a few every month. And they do get very painful indeed.
Anyway, The old adage "misery loves company" certainly apply's for me here today.
So please share your Migrain stories with me. I need to know I am not alone in this.

I've gotten them when I get over-tired and stressed. I get a little nausea, and a few where I've been sensitive to light. Usually a mix of tylenol and motrin and sleep helps, but it sucks if it hits earlier in the day.
I started getting them in grade school, I suffered with them for years until fairly recently. It got to the point where I was having them every day and it was keeping me from doing anything at all. I eventually got some prescription medication for it, not the kind that you take daily as a preventative, but the kind that you take when the pain starts. The problem with the medication are the side effects, I have a choice to either have the whole day ruined by the migraine, or have the whole day ruined by the nausea, weakness and sleepiness brought on by the medication. I usually choose the medication, the migraine sucks worse. It's basically just incapacitating pain, unable to move or think or talk or laugh and my entire head hurts, even my jaw.
When I switched from taking the birth control pill normally, i.e., 21 days on and 7 days off, to taking the Pill every day without a break at all, the migraines went away. I knew it was hormonal. So now, every 3-5 months or so, the Pill fails and I start to get break-through bleeding and I have to stop for a week and sort of "reset" my body and start up again. During that weeklong break, I will definitely get migraines. So, since I only break from the Pill a few times a year, I'm now only getting migraines a few times a year, which is far better than daily.
And if I didn't take any birth control pill at all? I'd still get daily migraines, and have irregular and severely painful periods on top of that. I wish menopause would just hurry the fuck up.
I suffered much more years ago than I do now but I get bad ones two or three times a year.
The kind where I throw up and have to lay still in a very dark room. Nothing will ease the pain. I do take Excedrin Migrane and it help a bit. It's better than nothing.
I get them anywhere from once a week to three times a week. I've gotten them all of my life. It really sucks to have the pain wake you up. Quite often they make me sick to my stomach and the nausea sicks around longer than the pain!
Are migraines hereditary or what? I have no idea about them, but I sure have known plenty of people who were incpacitated by them. It sounds horrible!
I get them, but very, very rarely. Probably every other year.
It will come on, I can't move, I can't even open my eyes and I usually end up with projectile vomiting.
After the vomiting, I usually feel a lot better. Why the vomiting seems to relieve the migraine? I have absolutely no idea.
I think it must be awful to suffer weekly or even worse, daily migraines. One thing I have noticed is that more women get migraines more often then men. Although, DH gets migraines, called Ocular migraines.
BB-my friend has them around her period, and also feels much better after throwing up. Bizzare.
I think I heard women get them more often because they're related to hormone fluctuations.
I think you're right Koi. Although I may not get a migraine, I do get very, very bad headaches before and during my period.
Why do we women have so many more health issues than men? Grrr...it's maddening. It's a curse.
Do we really have more health issues, ar are we just more willing to acknowledge and discuss and take care of them? Men are reluctant to admit to pain or to seek help, generally speaking. And they often die younger, either because they don't seek help, or because they experience more illness and disease. We have a lot of issues surrounding our reproductive systems. Men are more prone to injury.
What do you few guys on here think? Enlighten us!
Funny this topic should come up. After may Labor Day spent laboring (I work overnights) I feel a bad headache coming on now. I've taken something but it doesn't seem to be working. The pain is spreading from the front of my head (above the sinuses) all the way down to the center of my back!
Blah!
Good question, Eslbee. I think men and women have about equal numbers of health problems, but men tend to have more issues related to cardio-vascular health, and women lean more toward hormonal, but IDK.
I get them a couple times a year. Mainly from sunlight/sun glare. I will also get one from excessive smoke situations - like being in a really smokey bar or around fireworks (not so much a show, but when friends get together & shoot of stuff). Fireworks are a double whamy - the flashing ligths and the smoke together. UGH! I usually get nauseous and usually I get stupid - I feel like my brain is sitting next to my body. Only once did I have a metalic taste in my mouth, like I was sucking on a penny.
Quote:Only once did I have a metalic taste in my mouth, like I was sucking on a penny.
Sharon g: I had that once too. A long time ago. Gawd it was so nasty. And you described it exactly. Tastes like your sucking on a damn penny, UGH
ITA with eslbee: I know my DH rarely complains about his health issues. And he has just as many as I do, or more. But never complains. I wonder why that is?
Come on guys.. this thread is for everyone.
Is this a MAN thing to keep pain bottled up? Or is it just us women who are really cursed more then men, when it comes to pain. Especially in our heads.
Speaking of which I have a feeling another one is brewing.
Which is why i have not posted as much as I normally do these past few days. Sadly I have spent the holiday weekend, catching up on lost sleep.
Its hard to sleep when your head hurts. And big

(((((((())))))))) for all my fellow migraine sufferer's
I feel fortunate that mine does not effect my tummy.
Although this last one I had, for the first time in my life, I did have a tummy ache with it. But that was only once. I just hope it stays that way.
