To everyone everywhere who feels any bit enthusiastic about Canada today:

I hope that you have a great day, filled with friends and good times!

My friends and family are all safe and sound (had a bit of panic earlier this morning so the relief is huge), my boss just gave me the rest of the day off (they had planned a big meeting for 8pm tonight but it was delayed until tomorrow morning - yippeeeee!), and there is a BBQ with beer planned at the same time as a concert tonight. This should be great!

I'll try to post a photo of myself as I went crazy at the dollar store and am covered in red and white Smile
Have fun! I am new to Canada, but I was here for Canada Day last year. We didn't do anything then because the city was on strike and there were no fireworks or events. This year, I doubt we'll do anything because hubby is working today and tomorrow.. I'd go out on my own but unlike in the States, everything shuts down for these holidays. I miss WalMart being open 24/7/364 (exception of Christmas Day). Smile
Happy Canada Day!

DH has the entire weekend off and doesn't go back to work till Tuesday. A nice long weekend for him.

We're heading to T.O. on Saturday to see "Rock of Ages" in replacement of the U2 show that was postponed. Tonight are fireworks at the lake.

Should be a good weekend.
Have a good holiday!
Happy Canada Day!

I participated in the Canada Day run this morning and now I need to bike downtown to feed my friend's cats while she's away. I'm wondering if I should walk over to Parliament Hill to see what's going on, but I'm tired... Oh well.
Happy Canada Day! DH and I are thinking about the possibilities of living in Vancouver after he retires someday, so hopefully I can enjoy Canada Day, too, in the future.
Happy Canada Day!

I haven't done much today but I got a day off, for me it's always good.
I'm sorry I'm late to this thread! I hope everyone had a great holiday! Happy Belated Canada Day!
I did not feel very well, so my Canada Day activities started in the afternoon.
I researched the Canada Day events in my city and located five and decided to trike between them until I found the " vibe" I wanted.

My trike was packed up with options ( snacks, money, tools, extra clothes, map, etc) to enjoy the day and evening.
I wore a Canada T-shirt and had a Canadian flag on a pole.

The first event was quite nearby, but I only stayed an hour or so because the child- centric events and lack of skill in the "professional musical acts" did not match my interests.
The roads were very very dead quiet as I rode out to a downtown event.

That downtown Canada Day event was OK for half an hour - but still not my thing.
All five of the busker stages were empty and the professional performers were almost comical in their lack of skill.
Lip-syncing and pretending to play the Steel Drums ??
I grabbed some cake and continued on to more melodious pastures.

I continued riding to the next event at Harris Park and found my natural fit for a Canada Day event.
There were many skilled musical bands with different types of music.
It was multi-cultural with lovely ranges of song and dance.
The craft booths focused on local and skilled crafts-people and had a good variety of items at fair prices.
No area was crowded ( ie no food nor toilet line-ups), but was steadily busy.

Relaxing on my trike ( rolling lawn-chair) I met a few fine people and just relaxed listening to fine tunes, snacking and fixing my bike panniers ( worn out and needing patches from years of abuse).

At sunset- I chose to leave as the park was getting stuffed with people wishing to watch the fireworks over the forks of the Thames river.

The ride home was slightly adventurous with lots of people setting off fireworks in crazy-ass dangerous ways in small yards, parking lots and on the road itself.

On the 10km trip home, I found an abandoned bike that I easily tied on the back rack. It has two flats and a brake problem and I will sell it in my yard sale tommorrow.

That's it for Canada Day in London, Ontario.
