Now that I have a new dog in my life I was wondering if any of you dog owners take your dogs for a ride in the car?
I know with all the PC crap that is out there today that it is
not a good idea to take your dog in a car unless you strap them down like a baby.
So with that in mind. I ask
Do you take your dog for rides?
If so do you put them in a doggie car strap seat?
Or are they well behaved enough to lay down in the back seat on their own?
Of course I would never think to leave my dog in the car on a super hot day. THAT is the biggest no-no of all.
But,we are having some unseasonable cooler temps these past 3 days. High's in the 60's
And I have been trying to teach Angel not to crawl all over me while I am driving.
I think he is learning.
I will try again later on today, and give keep you all posted.
But for now, he is a handful.
So,Any useful tips from the FOAK of dogs in regards to keeping him calm and relaxed in the car
would be greatly appreciated Smile
Many Thanks

Yep! I took her just this afternoon!

We do not strap her down, but I recognize that if we were in a horrible car accident, I would regret that choice forever.

I only take her places where I'm not going inside (like the bank drive-thru), or if she can come inside (today, at the real estate office). In winter, I'll take her plenty of places -- bear in mind that "winter" in the South is, like, 45 degrees at the worst!

PG, what about putting her in a carrier, or getting one of those contraptions that fits across the back of a station wagon and makes a sort of cage of the rear compartment?
What is a "bye bye ride"? Just a ride with no particular destination?

Then no.

LOL Sorry Bye bye ride is just going in the car for whatever reason.
If you need to run an errand, or if you want to take them somewhere. Or if you have to pick up somone. As in example I have the car so I need to run errands, But I also have to pick up my hubby from work.
A bye bye ride is any ride period.
Sorry for the confusion. Its just a term easier for dogs to understand.
My Misty may she Rip knew that term very well.
She loved to riding in the car. And she was a never a PITA as Angel was today.
That stinker has not yet learned the word stay!
So as I was getting out to go to the post office he slithered past me like a snake and was out like a shot.
Thankfully there was some grass by the Post Office. TG he stopped to sniff long enough where I was able to grab his leash.
But at least he did pee, so I guess he really had to go, LOL
When you gotta go you gotta go. Smile
Better there, then IN the car, lol
So I did not scold him too much for that.
But working on the word Stay has been very hard.
Hopefully the classes will teach me what I am doing wrong.
I answered yes, even though I don't have a dog right now.

I used to take my dogs EVERYWHERE with me. In particular, my dog Charlie was always, always with me. Micki, too, but Micki was a different type of dog and didn't behave herself as well when we went visiting. Wink

I take my dog in my car once a day most days. We go to walking trails on the outskirts of town or to a dog friendly park. My dog gets so excited when we're going somewhere, it would be hard to keep him restrained by belt or carrier without causing distress because my dog has never been leashed in a yard or put in a carrier.
If I'm going out by myself, and weather permits, I take our eldest in a seat belt. BJ always uses the carrriers, and they travel long distance in them as well. To get them ready for a long trip, we bring the carriers in, throw treats in them and leave the doors open.
