Received this email to my childfree meetup group and am passing it on:

Hi There!

My name is Kate King and I'm a graduate student working on my final dissertation project. I am studying aspects of adult development, family, and well-being, and am trying to gather data from a diverse range of people with different marital and family situations. People who are single and childless are a statistically small group, but one that I want to represent in my results.

Would you be willing to forward this message and my call for participants (pasted below) to your group members? Participation is entirely anonymous and involves taking a brief online survey (about 20 minutes). That's it!

Please don't hesitate to be in touch with any questions or concerns, and thank you for supporting my graduate research!

Sincerely,

Kate King, MA

Done and done. Smile
I was curious and went to look even though I'm not single. They don't care if you're married. They definitely ask.

I think maybe she already had enough married people and people with kids, and is looking for a different demographic.
Maybe so, but I answered it anyway! I love those things.
Interesting questions. I think it's trying to determine if people with kids are more or less likely to participate in society than people without. I strongly suspect that people without kids will be more concerned about the community than those with.
Well, I ruined THAT theory. I am just about done with community crap.

I didn't like the questions pertaining to sadness and depression. I HAVE experienced a lot of those feelings in the last two months, but not because I don't have kids -- but because my beloved FIL died! -- and there was no comments block to explain that.

What a load of crap!
Done!

PG - statistically there are always portions of the population that will be temporarily and permanently depressed. This is a fact of life, and this is why they try to get input from as many people as possible. Your recent situation is completely the opposite from my temporary situation, as I was on vacation for the past two weeks (so some of my answers about the last week or month are going to be unusually positive for me) and in the past couple months I have been travelling with work and haven't seen any children at all.

It's on a military base in Afghanistan - it's all relative. Given a choice between being back 'home' and interacting around kids or being here, I would rather not be here, but then again I'm not a fan of dust, heat, and death.
