The way I see it, they're 30 years ahead of the rest of the world. It's too bad nobody else realizes the implications of over-population in the long run.

Lots of them remember the famines in the 1950s and 1960s, so I think that made most realize how important population control is. In the West we have not experienced such want, we think everything is abundant, we have plenty of room for more people. But in California, many more are feeling hemmed in by millions more people living here now.

Today's report boils it down to this:
More kids or more stuff?

I'll take the stuff. I mean, I can do without both, but I'll take the stuff if it keeps me from having kids. What do you do, like, a build a barrier of stuff around your house so they can't get in? Awesome.
