This is good news for a carnivore like me:

Boston, MA—In a new study, researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) have found that eating processed meat, such as bacon, sausage or processed deli meats, was associated with a 42% higher risk of heart disease and a 19% higher risk of type 2 diabetes. In contrast, the researchers did not find any higher risk of heart disease or diabetes among individuals eating unprocessed red meat, such as from beef, pork, or lamb. This work is the first systematic review and meta-analysis of the worldwide evidence for how eating unprocessed red meat and processed meat relates to risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
I don't eat a lot of red meat because it's near impossible to find restaurant quality steak at the grocery store so I get my fix when we eat out.
AND The VERY BEST place (IMHO) to eat MEAT out at any restaurant that serves quality beef is called "Texas de Brazil"
We found this place while we was in Las Vegas and it is a meat lovers paradise.

It is not for anyone that is on a tight budjet. Cause it is very pricey indeed. But it is WORTH evey penny, imho
YUM!
Interesting the link with diabetes. I wonder what the causality is there.
I haven't eaten meat, processed or otherwise, for 19 years. So I guess I'm safe either way. My cholesterol level is about 130 and my blood pressure is routinely 110/70 tops, sometimes lower, never higher.
Steaaaaaaak!!! DH and I regularly eat ribeyes (no restaurant can match the quality or flavor of one of DH's grilled steaks seasoned with hickory smoke), although we will eat a strip steak if the price is right at the grocery store. We have recently discovered organic ribeyes, and OH.MY.GOD. they are fantastic in flavor!!
PG, I may have to crash your place at dinner time-ribeye is my fav cut!

Have to say I'm not suprised by the study though. Pretty much any processed food is less healthy than its natural counterpart.
HMMMMM Ribeye is our fav cut too. And we had some yummy ones at "Lonestar" They got a good cook again. And it is now on our good list again. Lonestar had fallen out of favor for us around a year or so ago, when they started serving steaks that were tough and chewy.
But this last time out when we went, it was so good it reminded us of the flavors of "Texas De Brazil" which is the VERY BEST in char grilled meats & beef.
YUM Now I am hungry for some dinner.

I heard that Lonestar cut back on the quality of their beef a while back, but I hardly go there so I can't really judge.
I want to try Ruth's Chris, they are supposedly very good with steaks.
I heard there is a compound in rosemary that counteracts the unhealthy part of charred meat, that if you have a marinade with fresh rosemary this will make it more healthy.
Actually, I never understood the practice of charring meat on a grill. It's BURNT! Call it "charred" if you want, but it's BURNT!!!! And grill marks are nothing but BURNT LINES on the meat! BURNT, I tell you!!!
We grill at low temps -- coals totally ashen in color, and thinly spread out in the grill. About 9-15 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desirable level of done-ness. We never have grill marks. Toss in a stick of hickory, and mmmm-MMMM!
Yeah I don't like mine charred really, and I like mine medium. I don't think we ever have grill marks either...
I like to eat red meat but cut way back. Maybe once week at the most. Otherwise 2 x's. I try to find lean cuts as well. I never fry anything anymore.

LOL Hubby has always wanted to take me their to Ruth Chris. But I refuse to pay top dollar for just a steak. Steak dinner including side dishes, yes. But just a steak alone a-la cart? NO way jose. That is just too much money to blow on beef.
But I bet it is good. If you ever do go. Please let me know if it was worth it, thanks
ITA On Lonestar, But I think they made a comeback. At least in our neighborhood they did
