....And probably a weird environment, too. Ick.
Places refuse to talk about anything about their job: pay, environment, benefits, etc...no wonder most people have such a bad attitude towards their job/occupation.
How incredibly frustrating! Where I work, one can get fired for just discussing pay scales/raises. Unreal!!
I feel that there should be a LAW that states that all employers must tell perspective employees all the "catches' regarding being a part of their workforce. No surprise (aka: blackmail) about this and that once an employee is on board. I know that is just a wild fantasy, but really, what some employees get away with is unbelievable and disgusting.
Haha! It really IS a wild fantasy! If half the employers were honest about what's awaiting prospective workers, they wouldn't be able to hire anyone. LOL! (Not laughing at you at all--I'm laughing about how crappy the work environment is these days.)

We have to sign a non-disclosure where I work. Discussing salary is a fireable offense here, too. We come on board knowing this. I perfectly understand why they'd have a policy like that. That doesn't mean I agree--just that I understand it.

Basically, work sucks for most people, and most employers know this. That's what it comes down to. They can't get people to work for them if they are honest.

I would love to be indepenently wealthy, so I wouldn't have to worry about this shit. I'm too old for this! Wink

As for my own situation, we STILL don't know who is replacing our useless HR bitch, and she's STILL hanging around here, even though she had her retirement party LAST MONTH! I'm SO pissed!

This reminds me of a similar situation at a place I worked at. An engineer was retiring after about 30 or 40 years with the company. A secretary went around asking everyone for money to buy a retirement gift and there was a retirement party on the last Friday he worked. Come Monday, he was back at work. It shocked a few people. Apparently, the company offered him his job back, but on a contract basis rather than as a company employee. I guess it was cheaper for the company to do that instead of hiring another engineer and go through the process of training the person. He continued working for another year or so, then started cutting the hours we was working to part time hours, and eventually actually retired. There was no retirement party the second time around.
Believe me: This woman did not deserve one and should have been fired decades ago, but she's in good with the higher-ups. She's a close personal friend of our CEO, who just retired (they replaced HIM and gave us the info on his replacement.)

We're all pretty sure she's a sociopath.

OK, so here it is, mid-September, and I still have no idea who I can go to about a transfer. Things were a little better in my situation for a while, but yesterday a coworker snapped at me because I answered a question. This is how they treat me: Almost no one in my group talks to me, most of them don't give me any work, and then when deliverable time comes around and I need info or they have questions, they're nasty to me. My boss is treating me better, but it still sucks.

My confidence as far as job hunting goes is in the toilet. I really want out.

I'm not seeing many ads that are appropriate for me, so I haven't applied for much lately.

*suck*

Jen M.
Job hunting in 2011 is a freaking joke. There are no openings and for the ones that exist about 2,000 people apply. This has got to be the WORST market for job hunting since the 1930s.

J's SIL-to-be just quit his job with no back-up plan. Out. Of. His. Mind.

Hang in there, BC. This economy can't last forever. If it does so many people will kill themselves that then the job-market will get better. LOL.
Yep. Today's job market sucks ass.
So, Cats, how is the Evil Stepchild going to get by? Why did the SIL-to-be quit? That's the dumbest thing EVER! Good grief!

It really IS bad. That's why I've tried to become more patient and just accept where I am. I still don't want to stay, but I can't afford to quit, so I'm trying to get over myself and just not let the assholes get me down.

I still AM looking--it's just not going anywhere right now.

Ok, so here we are a few weeks later, and we have our answer to who is replacing Useless HR Bitch: No one! That's right. HR has set things up so that employees have NO ONE to whom to go if they have problems. It's like they want to administer benefits and hire and fire, and that's it. I realize HR is here for the company and not for the employees, but there are times when HR SHOULD help employees out. So I am fucking stuck!

Worst part is I asked my psup today about going part time. The group for which I work will not allow that. They want someone who is strictly full time--never mind that they don't USE me except when there's a deliverable due!

Things were better for a while, but yesterday I got really pissed off and went to my job coach. They expect me to be a PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR and to know how to read contracts now! Never mind that I'm not trained for that! The coach seemed very sympathetic. She and my psup both know I'm really miserable and really stuck. They were both sympathetic, but neither can help me. WTF? This is fucking TORTURE!

I did apply for a position on Friday. We will see how it goes. It would be a pretty big pay cut, but at this point, I want OUT and I'll be happy if I can pay the mortgage.

*sigh*

Oh, and it's review time, but they have not said anything to me about my review yet, so who knows when it will take place? Not that I care...

Sad

Just had my review. It was poor. Surprise, surprise. They claim I'm unable to multitask. That's awfully funny, since I often don't have A task, let alone MULTIPLE tasks.

I really hope to quit in the new year. These people are ridiculous!
LOL! Get this--The lead admin sent around a document she's working on. She is writing and aritcle for our study area's newsletter, reminding our staff that we admins exist! Can you believe it? They don't use us, so she has to remind them we are there.

What kind of a company doesn't know they have admins or how to use us? Giminy! Depressing.

I applied for another job yesterday. We'll see how it goes...

Pleeeese! What a crock of shit. Numerous studies have shown there is no such thing as a true/good multitasking person. Everything suffers when a person focuses on more than one thing at a time. We are not programmed to do more than one thing at the same time and do it carefully and do it well. Sure people can do more than one thing at a time, but something always seems to get missed or ignored. I work with a few individuals that keep telling me that they are excellent multitaskers and it is really scary.
Ugh, BC. What BS. They tell you that you can't multitask but you don't have enough to do? That makes zero sense. It's like they had to put something so that sounded good to them.

Update on SIL2B - he "didn't like" what he was doing, apparently. He is a finalist for another job but it is a long-shot. She's working retail to support them. Grown-up life isn't the picnic they thought it was, I'm guessing.
No surprise there, Cats! (Grown up life not being a picnic.) LOL!

Sometimes, I have multiple tasks; however, as BB has said, multitasking is a myth. When you are "multitasking," what you are actually doing is pushing tasks around, but not necessarily completing them. (Think pushing food around on your plate.)

What people THINK is multitasking is actually sequentially completing whole tasks, either by time due or by level of simplicity.

So if I'm working on our monthly report, which has to go out in two days, and someone comes to me to set up an Orientation for someone who is starting in a week, the Orientation is going to get pushed back. (That was another complaint. Someone said I was using the monthly report as an excuse not to help him. I had to explain to my stupidvisors that it was BECAUSE HE WAS BRINGING ME WORK WHEN I WAS ACTUALLY WORKING ON THE MONTHLY REPORT! DUH!)

These people are beyond dumb, but they are making ME look incompetent, and I resent that.
