I saw and episode of House Hunters International a few weeks ago and it was in Canada. For two of the houses, everyone took their shoes off at the door, and for one of the houses they did not. I noticed it was also rainy that day, and I seem to remember it was not an empty house, but a house still being lived in with with furniture. I wonder why they didn't de-shoe at that house, but they did at the other two.
My girls don't like to be restricted. If I forget to let them out, I hear about it pretty darn quick.

Interesting. I too wonder why they left their shoes on when it was a rainy day. Strange.

I was watching some show and there were about four people sitting around in the living room watching TV. They all had their shoes on and they all looked so uncomfortable. They were just sitting there with their shoed feet on the floor.

I thought about how I like to relax and watch TV and most of the time my feet are up on the coffee table or tucked underneath me on the sofa. I couldn't do that if I had my shoes on.

I don't know. I guess I just associate being at home with being comfortable and that does not include wearing shoes. It looks so formal and rigid and very, very uncomfortable.

So, for those of you that do wear your shoes in the house, how on earth is that comfortable? Don't you feel, psychologically, that taking your shoes off symbolizes the end of the day? You are now at home and you are able to get out of your work clothes and put on something more comfortable (whatever that might be for you) and relax.

And what about that? When you change out of your work clothes (or maybe you don't. Maybe you hang out in work clothes at home), do you then go and put your shoes back on and walk around the house?

To your first paragraph, you stated they "looked" uncomfortable, and in your second paragraph you went on to explain how you get comfortable (feet up on the coffee table, or tucked up underneath you) Well, for me, being comfortable is being seated, with my feet on the ground. If it is cold, i will have my socks and shoes on, that way my feet stay nice and warm. It is completely comfortable for me, and obviously for a lot of people.

to your third paragraph, i associate being at home with being comfortable too, but that has nothing to do with having shoes on or not. If i know i will be going in and out a lot, it is an inconvenience to put and and take off shoes constantly. And again, if it is cold, id rather keep my socks and shoes on that are already nice and warm than take them off and put on a cold set of slippers that id have to warm up. no thank you.

To your fourth paragraph, you asked how is it comfortable? well, I don't know about you, but when i buy shoes, I make sure they are comfortable, so that I can wear them all day and not be DYING to get out of them the second i hit the door. You also asked about it symbolizing the end of the day. Maybe it does for you, but the end of the day for me is when i walk out of the door at work, and know i have my freedom to do whatever i want. That again, has nothing to do with whether i have shoes on or off.

And to your final paragraph, some days when i get home, yes, i stay in my "work clothes" because agian, when i purchase clothing, i make sure it is first and foremost comfortable. I'd rather stay in one set of clothes for the day, stay nice and warm while it is cold, and not worry about taking my shoes off. During the hot months, i don't mind changing in to shorts, and running around barefoot, but in the cold months, no thank you, will stick to my comfy clothes, my comfy shoes, and stay nice and warm.

::edit for typo::
Well, I am a short person. Very rarely do my feet reach the ground so rather than have my feet dangle, I prefer to have them on the table or tucked underneath me.

That makes perfect sense. I'm a tall person, so I've never experienced that, but I would guess it would be uncomfortable, but for me, feet resting on the ground, with shoes on, is very comfortable.
If I had longer legs then yes, I'd prefer to have my feet on the ground but alas, I am vertically challenged.

ETA:
This is how I usually sit on the sofa

I have to give up sitting curled on the sofa, because of my bad knee! But I'm too short to be comfortable with feet on the floor, so I survive with the recliner (we have those that are built into the sofa).
