NKB, that is so funny! That made me laugh out loud.

I hate the high pitched shrieking and crying. I really hate listening to kids whining, too. The whining and beg-a-thons I hear in public places are often unbelievable! Who raises kids like this? I think it is very rude that parhunts are basically allowing their children to disturb everyone around them. What do they care, right? They can tune it out somehow.... and I really wish I had the gift to do that.
LOL @ NKB!

Beacbum, I'm not sure if they're tuning it out, or if after continually being exposed to it their hearing is damaged and they no longer are able to hear the higher pitches in the auditory register. Or maybe their brains are just fried due to watching too much Teletubbies.

Just thinking about that screeching noise I can feel an actual shadow of pain in my ear/side of face area. It almost hurts on the roof of my mouth region - not sure if this experience resonates with anyone else.

The worst two places to hear that sound are the movies and restaurants. MOST other places you can laugh and get the hell out of Dodge, but in restaurants and the movies you are stuck. I laugh when it happens at the grocery store because I don't have to deal with it. Smile

Actually, the worst place is on a plane. you literally cannot escape. even in a movie or restaurant, you can walk out if its too terrible, but on a plane....yeah...that is just pure torture.
I took a singing class once, and the instructor was talking about different vocal sounds and he said "Do you know what is the most perfect sound? A baby crying." I think he meant it because they certainly can project, but I don't think I would call it a perfect sound.
Oh, barf!
Quote:We had neighbours with screechy kids that were outside All THE TIME. It drove us nuts. I swear to god, the mother made them go outside so she wouldn't have to listen to their screechy voices.

One day, I had enough and called the cops. It was a Saturday afternoon and they had been out there all morning screaming away. The person on the phone said there wasn't much they could do about it as it was a Saturday afternoon and kids will be kids. I finally told her that I thought the kids were being abused. Why else would they be screaming like that. Sure enough, a cop car was sent out and the screeching stopped.

Later that night, D and I went for a walk and went past the house. There was a huge sign in the front window that read "FUCK YOU". I can't be totally sure but I think that it was directed at whoever called the cops - which was us.

D and I laughed our asses off for days after that. We still get a chuckle out of it.

Luckily, they moved away shortly after that.

That is a great story NKB! I wish I had been smart enough to think of that when or former neighbors lived across the street. Their daughter screamed and shrieked ALL THE TIME. Even all the way across the street we could hear it - even with the windows closed. I can only imagine what was like inside that house. Luckily they moved out!

The second worse is when you are at work and someone brings a kid in and it starts. You not only can't just leave since you'll lose pay but then you're the bad guy at work and you have to deal with people who see you as a kid-hater even though a kid shouldn't be there in the first place.

I still say a plane is the work because you truly are trapped.
OMG. Kids at work piss me off SOOO much!
