For Céline Dion, the sixth time was the charm, but her hope to expand her family was an arduous year-long journey.

"I feel like I've been pregnant more than a year," Dion, 42, whose previous IVF attempts had failed, told the French-language Le Journal de Montreal. "I never gave up. But I can tell you that it was physically and emotionally exhausting."

"Everyone knows that Céline has guts and is determined," adds husband, René Angelil. "These treatments were truly hard on my wife's body. It wasn't simple at all."

But the perseverance paid off when the couple found out they are expecting twins. "There were truly great emotions after all our efforts," says the singer.

Those efforts included traveling from her Florida home to New York for months of treatments and also turning to acupuncture from a Montreal-based specialist.

"My doctors had to constantly reassure me. I [wanted] to see the babies," she says. "Each week I had sonograms. I heard their heart beats."

Now, having already endured the ups and downs of several in-vitro fertilization attempts, Dion says she's following her doctors' orders closely.

"It's stressful but I'm relaxing. I look at my little belly. I do almost nothing," she says. "If you tell me I have to stay in bed, I will stay in bed until November, when the babies are born. To bring them into the world, there's nothing more important than that. It's incredible."

Adds Dion: "We will have a beautiful family nest full of love."

And though the singer, who plans to kick off a new Las Vegas show next year, says she loves her career, she's realized that there's an even higher priority in her life.

"There are no accomplishments bigger than [being a mom]. The trophies and the money, that doesn't give meaning to life and that doesn't give you true happiness," she says. "A baby – yes."

Many thousands of kids died while she just had to have a baby cooked inside her.
You know, in some warped world, this news doesn't actually bother me. I think having more ANGELILS running around is bad news, as I still think he's a creepy child molestor who started in on Celine when she was 13. That being said, she was one of something like 14 kids, really really really wanted to have kids, and god knows she has the money to give them a decent upbringing. I also get the feeling she genuinely loves her kid(s), unlike some Hollywood types who have them as trophies or to match their purse.

I think having to to have frankenchildren is ridiculous, and I think 42 is too old... but I get why she wants them and FWIW, she does have one of the most stable marriages in the business. *shrug*
I still don't understand the fascination with the announcement of a pregnancy. There's nothing new about it and it's been done billions of times before and will continue to happen every few seconds. Isn't her husband an old fart? He seems more like the creepy uncle than her husband. Why would he want more kids. But, it's probably C.D. that wanted another kid right now and since she's the bread and butter in the family, she gets whatever she wants.

As for Jo's statement: "...and god knows she has the money to give them a decent upbringing." I wonder if kids of celebrities do actually get a good upbringing. Celine Dion isn't going to give up her career any time soon, so it will be nannies that raise the kids. She'll have the kids around during photo ops, then it's back to the nannies to do the dirty work. And the kids will either go to super-expensive private schools for the super-rich snobs or will be home tutored and sheltered from the real world. The kids will have no grasp of the value of money and work and will expect everyone to treat them like gold. It's no wonder so many kids of celebrities mess up when they enter the real world.
Fair enough... Having been raised in a poor family, I have pretty strong opinions that you should at least have X dollars in the bank and a concept or two about what constitues the necessities of life before you are licenced to sprog, but that's just my gestalt. LOL And lotsa rich kids turn out horribly spoiled and have no concept of money, it's true.

I don't think her kid is being raised by nannies... I'll bet she's surrounded by family. Coming from a family of 15 or 16 usually makes you kind of obsessed with family. I'll bet some of her siblings and nieces and nephews live with them. Just a guess.

I will be honest, though, I really love Celine so maybe I'm biased. I also read her autobiography, and I recall her being pretty obsessed with wanting a big family and upset that she couldn't conceive naturally. Not something I relate to at all, but like I said I like her, so it's probably why I'm not as hard on her as I am on other baby-rabied celebrities.
I was just going to say that you're biased because you're a fan.

I fucking hate her but hey...that's just me.
