I feel so ignorant... 1/3 of hospitals in the US are catholic-based?! That throws me for a loop more than anything else in that article.
It's a good thing God doesn't give a flip what the Pope says.
Nothing surprises me about the Catholic Church. Higher ups spend decades covering up the sexual abuse of children and now claim that the church is somehow being "persecuted". The pope and company need to go away!

As Sinead O'Connor says, these people who run the church (the pope and co.) act like they don't believe in an all-knowing, all-seeing god of the bible. If they did, they wouldn't sexually abuse children or spend so much energy covering it up when someone does. If they really believed in god they'd know they'd have to do the right thing and not destroy so many people's lives. They're cynical, even they don't believe, the church is nothing more than a power-grabbing political party and it has been since day one.

Don't forget, these people also believe, within the context of their doctrine, that they can do ANYTHING (rape, murder, whatever) and as long as they confess and receive absolution, they're clean as a virgin's junk. I think they actually believe THAT, and use it to make their way in life, moreso than they don't believe in an all-seeing God. I think they have a special deal to get away with stuff, because they believe in God's masculinity and they are all members of the old boys' club.
Isn't it convenient how they sometimes use or infer the old line "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone" when one of their kingpins or underlings is caught with their pants down, but if someone expresses an opinion that they don't agree with, the person (the nun in this case) is booted out of church, therefore condemning that person to got to hell in the after-life. What a system. Yet so many people consider non-christian religions as being too radical.
If this nun is a nurse or hospital administrator, someone else will snap her up, and if she has half a brain she'll find her way to an understanding of faith that's a lot more comfortable than the one she is leaving.
