So I had lunch yesterday with a former co-worker from the place I was laid off from in October.
She mentioned that the boss lady did not give out her usual Christmas bonuses last year. Rather, she gave out "loyalty" gifts. The longer you'd been there, the better the gift and from what I gather, anyone under five years didn't received anything. Notta. Nothing. Not even a gift card or anything.
Here's the kicker - she handed out three trips to Venice. Yes, Venice. Six days, five nights flight and hotel paid for. The people that received this generous gift had been with her for 15, 8 and 6 years. Yet, she gave a watch to an employee that had been there over 10 years and a bracelet to another that had been there seven years. Explain to me this: why did the six year employee get the trip to Venice while the 10 year employee received a watch?
Because it wasn't about loyalty at all. It was about who her favourites are. Everyone knows JM is MB's favourite little minion. That's why she and her six year ass received the trip but the 10 year employee did not.
Nice, eh.
How would you feel if you were the 10 year employee and found out that another person who had not been there as long as you had received a free trip to Venice? I'd be right fucking pissed off. Not only that but if you hadn't served for Her Royal Highness for at least five years, you got squat.
Sweet. I'm kind of glad I don't work there anymore.
A little schadenfreude is good for the soul. like chicken soup!
I'd be pissed. What a bitch.
OMFG I am sooooo Happy I never experienced anything like that in my LIFE!!! WHAT A BITCH!!!
Your better off without them NKB!

And yes If that had happened to me, having my seniority overlooked like that, I would have been highly pissed off.
Its a wonder this lady can still keeps all of her employee's
Wow. It's like that everywhere, though. Even where I work, which is union and doesn't have bonuses... gives the best jobs and the jobs with the most overtime to the favourites. It's so obvious as to be laughable.
Ugh, that is just disgusting behavior, blatant favoritism is not going to do her any favors either since the people she snubbed are probably going to be less than pleased and less likely to really give a crap about work.
If boss bitch was going to allow only a certain number of people get the free trips, she should've had a draw-pick names out of a hat. That way, nobody has the right ro be pissed off at the boss and company if they didn't win.
Did this former co-worker tell you what the reaction was of the people who didn't get picked for the trip, and did any of the people who are going on the trip feel the slightest bit of guilt for the others who weren't hand picked to go?
The boss bitch might be a great business woman, but she is a total retard when comes to dealing with people. Hopefully, some day it will come back to bite her in the ass. The most ideal situation would be if her business went down the tubes and she was forced to look for a regular job like all the other peons and found out she wasn't that special and couldn't control people in the real world and get the same treatment she dished out.
Nope, I don't know what the reactions of the other people were or if they even cared. I'd care however.
And yes, she's a brilliant business woman - built the business from the ground up and has done very well for herself.
I don't think this was the right thing to do. IMO, bonuses should be based on percentage of pay or everyone gets the same amount. That is fair.
Personally, I have been so badly mistreated the last 10 years of my life that I've just learned not to give a shit what my higher-ups do. They favor a 3-year employee over me? Whatever. Big fucking deal.
It's not about fairness in the workplace. Anyone who thinks that has either got it good or is really naive.
I think your not being there is THEIR loss, NKB, and I hope that you find something more worthy of your time and talents.

I'm with you Jen. I have no expectations as regards to employers anymore because of what I've seen in my life. I'm happy if they spell my name right on a paycheck at this point.
Wow, that does suck. Guess it does prove my former supervisor's point that today's workplace is essentially "Survivor"-its all about using secret alliances to get ahead. Which I hate because I'd rather focus on direct services than trying to be earning brownie points.
