I knew from the time when I was a little girl (five-years-old, maybe) that I never wanted children. For one thing, I never was interested in playing with baby dolls. I honestly think that was the first sign. As I grew older, I never had a maternal urge at all (I am 39 now). I'm doing good just to take care of myself, let alone a helpless child.
I am glad I did not live in the generation 1950s or earlier ... because back then I would have been virtually *required" have kids.
I married my husband 17 years ago. He likes children more than I do (i.e., likes to play with our toddler niece and infant nephew more than I do), but he agreed that he did not want children from Day One, either. The fact that we both have seizure disorders has very little - if anything, really - to do with our decision.
