Michigan dad used child, 2, as shield against Taser

WARREN, Mich. — Authorities say a suburban Detroit father used his 2-year-old child as a shield to protect himself from a police Taser.

Police say charges against 27-year-old Joseph Raymond Cox stem from an incident last Saturday at his ex-wife's home in Warren, about 10 miles north-northeast of Detroit.

Police Capt. Dennis DeVooght tells The Macomb Daily that Cox took a "fighting stance" with police after he returned to the home following an earlier incident.

When officers pointed their Tasers at Cox, he positioned the child between himself and the officers. One officer grabbed the suspect's arm and a witness grabbed the child. Officers did not fire their Tasers.

Cox is being held in the Macomb County Jail. An April 8 preliminary hearing has been set.

OMG, I saw this on FAILBlog today, and all I could think was "WTF".... seriously? They really need to start licensing people to have children. *sigh*

That's where I saw it too. I agree about the licensing people to have children. At the very least it should be a conscious decision not just an accident of stupidity or failed contraception.

That's where I saw it too. I agree about the licensing people to have children. At the very least it should be a conscious decision not just an accident of stupidity or failed contraception.

I know I've said it before, but how come I have to have a pet license, but any fuckwad can procreate? Why is that? Huh? Huh?

While I agree with the sentiment, how do you stop people from breeding?

To stop people from breeding someone needs to invent a Depo Prevara dart gun.

YES! How wonderful would that be? Judges should be able to sterilize people. All animal abusers - sterilized, for example!

sterilize them at birth and dont reverse it till they are 30 yo's and have one million ollars in the bank in cash before they are allowed to breed

If you can't use your kids as a taser shield, what's the point of even having them?

When I was a kid, Dad made us do so many personal errands -- run get me a drink of water, run get the screwdriver, go get this and that -- that I ended up longing for the day I would have kids, so I could have personal Step-n-Fetchits.
