Multi-part question:
How many computers are there in your household? Don't include half-computers that are used for spare parts. If more than one, do you have a stay-at-home computer and a portable device? Which one do you use the most?
If you have a SO, do each of you have your own computer, or do you share one? If you share one, who uses it the most?
Also, if you have separate e-mail addresses, do you read each other's e-mails?
Work related issue: Do you ever use your work's computer for personal use (e.g.-looking at wekidyounot postings)? Roughly how much time do you use a work computer for personal use? (Don't answer if your employer looks here).
I have two computers at home. One is a desktop and the other a laptop. I haven't used the desktop much in 2 years (when I got the laptop) but it still works. I have had to use it a couple times when I was having laptop problems, and I also can't get rid of it yet because I haven't removed the data from it. I almost always use the laptop now.
I don't have a SO, but my rule is 'my computer, my email address, my email'. I don't mind sharing my laptop temporarily, but I log myself out.
I use my work computer for personal use all the time. I don't use it for a long period of time, but I'm often checking things out, or sharing links with coworkers (this one was popular today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9R-cQ_A_6w). I get a lot of work done, and my boss really doesn't care what we do with our time provided that we have results at the end of the day.
I have One Old POC=Piece Of Crap Computer that is a desk top
We run windows media center and Yes I share this one with hubby.
NO we do not read each others E-Mails We RESPECT each others right to privacy.
Since we both grew up without privacy. We both know how important it is to each other now. This is a HOME computer only. Neither of us is working right now.
IF Hubby ever goes back to work we plan on buying a laptop
Which was why I was trying to get laptop info.
Walmart has Laptops as cheap as $500 For that price I can get 2 for the price of one desk top.
But the jury is still out on that idea.
DH and I both have our own MacBook laptops.
We don't read each other's emails.
I don't work in an office, I'm self-employed.
Just one, my laptop. BJ plays mahjongg on it sometimes.
I surf and play on the one at work, too. No one cares.
After reading Eddy's response, I remembered I have an ancient laptop given to me by a friend when my former laptop crashed while I was doing my dissertation. Luckily I had backed up my documents elsewhere and was able to transfer them to the new one I use now. Anyway, still looking for a home for the relic!
Five but I must qualify that.
One desktop, fully functional.
One laptop, fully functional - backup machine.
One desktop which is a relic but still works although not in use.
One desktop which needs work on it in terms of drivers and stuff.
One desktop which needs a lot of work to be useful. Memory, CPU, hard drives, etc.
1 - We own three. Two desktops and a laptop. I use the laptop mainly, and he uses the newer desktop. I use the older desktop to play Diablo.
2 -- We have separate computers, separate emails, etc. We don't mind sharing as needed, but otherwise, we are expected to manage our own stuff.
3 -- Yep.
I have no idea. I am a computer technician by trade, so I have computers and computing devices in and out of my house constantly. At any given time I have a few laptops, terastations, a web-connected iPhone, at one point I had a desktop exclusively for karaoke use (120 gigs of karaoke songs).
All of my computers are work computers (supplied by work). I use them all for personal use as well as work use. When you do what I do for a living, it's impossible to separate out 'work' and 'play' because pretty much everything I do online or with the hardware keeps me at the top of my game in my industry.
No SO, but I could never share a laptop/computer... I remember when Ziggy and I went to South Dakota last summer, she asked if she could use my laptop now and again to check her email and I thought not. I outfitted her with the spare laptop. The thing with travel is that your time online is so limited (Panera Breads, libraries, etc.) the last thing you want to be doing is sharing that time. LOL Yeah, I'm greedy about my online time, I'll admit it.
Also, I'm EXTREMELY sensitive about privacy and password protection and stuff like that, and oftentimes I stay logged on to all my favourite sites, so it's better if I just keep my laptop to myself. It takes time to log in and out of sites, and again, if time is at a premium, that's a waste of it. I also am very respectful of other people's privacy and would never ask them for a password or betray their confidence, so it's easier just to give the guests their own computers.
One computer at home - laptop - we both share it. I think we use it equally.

LOL well if we are talking non functional Computers then we own 3
Two towers are downstairs. They could be functional if they were to be
re-formatted. But they are also very out dated as well. And not enough memory either.
But for now, they are just mighty expensive door-stops, LOL
One - MacBook Pro which DH and I share. I use it more than he does though just because I'm home more often.
We do have an old PC downstairs that we're not sure what to do with.
1 old HP Pavillion and a relic crt 19" screen. Yes, I have computer access at work and do check yahoo email and such, sometimes do google searches for books or what not, boss does not care as long as work is done.
DH and I each have our desktop. We each had our own before we got married, and we each had our own email. DH really doesn't use his email he only games. We don't read each others email. No reason to really.
Would loooove a laptop but need to spend on other things.

to the boards Nyxhs I wish your business much success.
Update on how many computers we own now is now 5

3 non functional ones. And One new Desktop purchased 4-10-10
And one new laptop purchased on the same date.
Which has been a life saver for my hubby who is OTR=Over The Road.
We have...I think...5. I have one desktop, D has 2. We have a third, which is now hooked up in the bedroom for streaming in music or watching movies in bed. I have a laptop, as does D. He also has two laptops he was fixing for his parents. He sent HIS laptop home with his mom so they'd have one to use.
He likes to tinker and reconfigure, so I sometimes lose track of how many we actually have. LOL!
