Starting this back up over here.

I just watched "Bruce Almighty" and "Evan Almighty". They were funny. I was disappointed in the ending of "Evan Almighty" though. I was expecting...well, more.

Watching the entire six movie Star Wars saga on Spike Network. Man, those first three (in order of story, the last three to be made) pretty much stink! The actor playing Anakin at all ages is soooo bad. That Padme would fall in love with someone ten years younger than herself, and very nearly a child is ludicrous. The Jedi stuff is good, though -- Obi-Wan, Qi Gong, and all that. Even the digital Yoda is pretty nifty much of the time. I want to punch my screen every time Jar-Jar comes on screen.

Ditto to all you said.

This past weekend was a plethora of things on HBO & Cinemax, such as "Deep End of the Ocean", "Gladiator (which I've never seen!) & "Blood Diamond."

Gladiator was freaking great! I'm sorry I never caught this in the theater. It also sucks that Oliver Reed died during the making of this as well.
I just recently joined NetFlix and I will be contributing a lot more to this thread...lol.

My first movie that I rented was the documentary A State of Mind. I believe I read about it here on the board.

The documentary was a fascinating look into the lives of two North Korean gymnasts who were training for the Mass Games, a huge spectacle honoring North Korea and its communist regime. Honestly, the film was more about the effect that communism has on the daily lives of these people and how they are brainwashed with its dogma. It was very good and I recommend it.

I saw "The Queen" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age". Both were good. Helen Mirren deserved the Oscar -- there were times I completely lost myself, and didn't think I was looking at anybody BUT the queen! As for the other, Cate Blanchett is magnificent in that role, and the costuming was spectacular. There was inadequate set-up for her despising the marriage of Elizabeth and Raleigh -- you have to know the history of her reign and temperament to understand those scenes. Unless the directed WANTED the viewer to think she was in love with Raleigh and thus jealous of a little girl!!!
I saw Horton Hears a Who a few weeks ago. Thankfully the theater wasn't crowded (ie no children). The movie was cute...not terrific, but not terrible either.
I finally saw "But I'm a Cheerleader" this weekend. It had some really hillarious parts, and some very sweet parts. I loved it.
From Netflix we rented "Running with Arnold", a documentary about the current governor of California. it was really good, also funny, still informative, in the Michael Moore style.
Well, it's not a movie, but DH and I bought the first two seasons of "How I Met Your Mother" on DVD and have been having 7 or 8 episode marathons in the evenings. It's addictive, and that show is HILARIOUS!

We also recently picked up both seasons of "Feasting on Asphalt" with Food Network's Alton Brown. We watched them when they were on, but Alton is awesome, so we bought them too.

I am probably the only person in the world who thinks this, but I think Natalie Portman's acting was way worse than Hayden Christianson's acting. At least in the 2nd film. In the 3rd, they are equally bad.

I posted about the 2nd one on the Old Board. There are a lot of historical inaccuracies in it.

We have been getting all of the "Star TREK" movies from netflix...Yep, starting with the first one where "they all just stood around looking old." We just finished the one that is the first one with Captain Picard/last one with Captain Kirk. I still love the "whale episode" where they are in 20th Century San Francisco.

I had heard about the Grindhouse 2-fer, and wanted to see it when it came to cable. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it had arrived until almost too late. I was scrolling through the OnDemand choices, and saw "Death Proof" in the list. It sounded good, so I watched, and loved it. I realized it was part of the Grindhouse set, so I planned on watching Planet Terror the next day... but for some reason, Starz took it off the regular and only offered it in HD. Crap. Then, last week, I saw the full 2-fer, the last hurrah. Folks, I don't buy DVDs, but I have put Grindhouse on my list to buy when I have money to spend on it. Violent, tacky, campy, but wonderful. Death Proof is great if you're a woman at the "I hate men" part of your cycle, like "I Spit on Your Grave" is. And, there are faux-"trailers" in the 2-fer. Like going to the movies back in the 60's and 70's.
I actually watched a Lifetime movie over the weekend. I don't usually get sucked into them, or even bother to give them a chance, but I was flipping through and saw Steve Zahn, so I stopped for a minute. Well, that's all it took...It was called "Speak" and is about a teenage girl who gets raped at a party, so she calls the cops. Everyone freaks when the cops show up, so she freaks out too and decides not to tell anyone. All of her friends basically shun her and she becomes an outcast at school. (People squeal at her as she walks down the hall, etc.) She withdraws into herself and her art, and barely speaks to anyone.

I know it sounds really cliche, but it was surprisingly good. The girl who plays the victim (Kristin Stewart) gave a really great performance. I have to admit I was impressed.

Estea, I just noticed you and I have the same avatar. Are we going to have to duke it out for avatar rights?

My fav is "Wrath Of Khan" But I too enjoy the whale
one. Only cause I love all sorts of animals
And was so happy to see Gracie and her mate be happy & free.

As for your Avatar problem with cats...? That is sort of funny
that was mentioned. Cause for a while I thought I was seeing doubles
of that cat at that toilet paper roll, lol
Good luck with you & CFS duking it out, lol

I just got done watching a movie called
Eragon. I know I saw it before. But it was so good I had
to see it again.
Code 46 with Tim Robbins. It's science fiction, kind of like Gattaca. I never heard of this movie, but we got it on Netflix. It's about the consequences of genetic engineering, the gap between the rich and poor worlds etc.
From Netflix, I recently watched the independant film Kids. For some reason, this was on my movie list on Internet Movie Database from a while ago so I went for it.

The movie concentrated around this teenager Telly whose goal was to "de-flower" as many virgins as possible. The only problem was that he had HIV and didn't know it. I thought the movie was fair if a bit unrealistic in the way it depicted the teens' obsession with sex. Either that, or I just didn't run is as fast circles in high school.
