"Glory Road"-Movie about the first college basketball coach to recruit black players. I'm not a sports fan, but this was a really good story. Based on a true story. The acting was really good.

"Taken"-Retired CIA/secret agent type's daughter is kidnapped by sex traffickers while she is on vacation in Paris. It was OK, but beyond a certain point, it became really hard to suspend disabelief. Also, the ending was really, really pat. Not terrible, though. Good story.

I saw "King Corn" over the weekend. As a whole I'd say the movie doesn't really work that well - it doesn't have that great of a story arch, but it was interesting at points and definitely is making me think harder about high fructose corn syrup.
Finally saw "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." I really, really liked it and would like to see the other two movies, but I don't know if we will, and here is why:

There is exactly one scene--one line--where one of the characters speaks English. It is NOT SUBTITLED! It was a simple enough line, fortunately, that I was able to sign in for Audiodef, but he (and I too) has reservations about seeing the other movies, because it is likely they do not subtitle spoken English in the other movies, either. This is a really horrible practice. We can't watch many Indian films for the same reason: When there is a scene in English, many times they don't subtitle it.

VERY ANNOYING.

That said, it's a really, really good story, and I immediately liked the two lead actors (actor and actRESS, rather.) They are both good, and they had good chemistry. The story is very disturbing, though! I'm definitely intrigued.

Ok, I finally broke down and rented a movie. I just had to see the movie called "The Help" I am so glad I did. Now I know why it is getting such a buzz in the limelight of Hollywood. It really is a good movie. And one very very FUNNY scene that makes the movie, LOL.
I highly recommend for everyone to see "The Help" Thumbsup
And Kudos to the cast for winning the SAG award as well WTG!!
I've heard it's really good. I'm glad you liked it.

There's an Indie Moviegoers Meetup so they had A Separation for the next film to see. It is Oscar nominee for best foreign film from Iran. Really fascinating.
Bob & I saw "Bridesmaids" I am so happy we did. It was very funny & very good. And I can understand why it has been in the limelight lately. It REALLY is a great movie.
You got to go see it. Thumbsup If you have not already done so. Smile

Yeah, recently saw it too!
The last movie we saw, a few nights ago, was "Death at a Funeral." This is the American version, which had an amazing, amazing cast. My BF was annoyed, because it was an exact copy, scene for scene, of the original--the British version. It's a good movie (both versions.) Even though he is right, I enjoyed this version just as much. It was really pretty funny, and like I said, the cast was pure magic. They were all really good.

I agree with my BF that this kind of remake is annoying, but when I watch a movie, I watch it on its own terms. Would it have been nice if there'd been some sign of original interpretation of the story? Sure, but I watch movies to unplug and be entertained. If I wanted to analyze them, I'd go to film school. Wink

Rented: A Better Life-I really thought it was a good movie-very depressing though.

I liked both versions, too. They were both good on their own terms and it didn't bother me in the least that the American version copied the first movie scene for scene. They did it in a way that worked well because there's a huge difference in the cultures anyway.

I saw "Bridesmaids" recently and couldn't understand what all the fuss has been about, it wasn't really all that funny, not like the "Hangover" certainly.

Last night we watched "Midnight In Paris" and it was cute. We also saw "Beginners," and it's totally worth watching, it has a great dog character, and my boyfriend Goran Visnjic had his best role to date.
Oh, good, we have Beginners from Netflix waiting for us to watch. We did see Midnight in Paris last week too.
Anastasia, I agree with you. Two different cultures with their own ways of interacting. The cast for the American version really did make a difference, though. With the wrong casting, it really could have sucked.

We saw Creation, about Charles Darwin and his struggle to come to terms with the need to write On the Origin of Species, also about his daughter who died and how that affected him and his wife. Really beautifully filmed, nice costumes, nature scenes, good acting. Too bad the intelligence design dorks badmouthed this film, I think it deserves wide release.
We finally saw "Kick Ass"-What a great movie, and not what I expected at all! Really amazing. This is one that I'd consider having in my collection.

How awesome was Hit Girl? LOL!

We saw Beginners with Christopher Plummer, who plays a 75 year old widower who comes out as gay and decides to jump fully into his new gay life. He also has a Jack Russell terrier...which his son inherits after the man's death.
It was cute that the characters talked to the dog, like they knew what the dog was thinking.
I hope Plummer wins the Oscar next week for his role.
We just saw "Contagion." I wasn't expecting much, but it's actually really good! I think it's the best movie I've seen in a long time. Very disturbing and upsetting film, though.

Goran Visnjic was perfect as the boyfriend, it's the best role I've ever seen him do. That's the reason I watched the movie in the first place, gotta see my Croatian boyfriend! And the film was very sweet.
Saw The Descendants last week. I thought is was great! Also watched, The Lives of Others (again)---amazing movie!
We saw The Bully Project. Really good, everyone should see this.
