I saw Sex and the City on Saturday. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might go see it again in the theater. I'll definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD. I am a HUGE fan on the show. I own all seasons on DVD and watch them all the time. (hubby had no desire to see the movie, thus he stayed home). I really don't think he would have liked it.
Watched a remake of "The Andromeda Strain" on A&E. Pretty good!
I watched "The Pursuit of Happyness" last night.
It was ok, it could have been better, but it still got the point across and Will Smith's son is beyond adorable.

I think I'm the only person in the USA who hasn't seen Indiana Jones Temple of Doom. Back when it came out I wouldn't go because I thought it was sexist - I.J. rescues the helpless female. I guess I never let go of my boycott on it, much as I enjoy action films.
Not sure if I'll see this one - is it the same pattern - helpless female, big hero guy?

I haven't either. It just never looked like something I'd be interested in seeing.
Watched a lot of movies this weekend.
Friday night, I went to see a new French film called "Priceless" (Hors de prix). It's a comedy starring Audrey Tautou from "Amelie" and Gad Elmaliel (sp?) from "The Valet". It was very funny! It's about a golddigging woman who falls for a bartender/bellhop because she thinks he's a rich man (the tux fooled her). When she finds out the truth, she dumps him and he starts pursuing her. Then she hooks up with a sugar daddy, and he finds a sugar momma at the same hotel, and hilarity ensues.
Saturday night I watched an Israeli film on IFC called "Ushpizin". It's about a religious Hassidic couple in Jerusalem who are down on their luck (broke, infertile, etc). Then some unexpected guests arrive for Sukkot (Jewish holiday). The 2 men, who have escaped from prison, are old friends of the husband from his former life as a petty criminal. Tensions abound and their faith is tested. Very funny! CFers will probably hate the ending, but still a cute movie.
"Paper Cannot Wrap Up Embers" - a very depressing documentary about prostitutes in Pnom Penh, Cambodia. The whole thing is just scenes of the women, and them talking. There is no narration. It made me grateful to be born here, and sad that there is seemingly nothing to be done to help these women.
"Nurse Betty" - I finally got around to watching this. Very funny movie starring Renee Zellweger as a sweet, innocent Kansas waitress who is a huge fan of a soap opera. Her scumbag husband cheats on her and is involved in drug dealing. When he gets murdered in front of her eyes, she goes into shock and thinks she is a character in her soap opera. She flees Kansas to go to LA to see her "boyfriend" the soap opera character, and is chased by 2 gangsters who are trying to recover the drugs that her late husband hid in the car. Very cute movie!

I loved it! Sorry you felt that way. Was it a little too long, maybe? I think what blew me away about it was that it was a true story. The main character's determination and cleverness was just mindboggling to me.

Was everyone dressed up at the theater? I was at the theater last Friday to see another film ("Priceless") and was just stunned by the hordes of young women waiting in line to see "Sex and the City" wearing fancy dresses and a ton of perfume. There were very few men in sight. It was very weird, because women in Houston don't even dress up for the opera, the theater, court, or weddings! We found it bizarre and somewhat pathetic that they would all dress up for a movie! My friend said, "It's just like Rocky Horror!"
I dunno,I didn't think the movie was too long, it just seems like it was missing something for me. It was a great story, very moving because I knew it was true, but I'm not sure. I liked the movie overall and definitely recommend it, it just... I'm not sure why.. but it sort of fell flat for me. I did love the fact that he was so ballsy- calling the CEO first, making his own leads and his own way and everything. I know I couldn't have done have the things he did to get where he knew he had to be!
I have no interest in SATC. I can't stand the TV show and the movie just looks awful. It's soooo not my thing!
I also haven't seen Indiana Jones and have no intention of it. I've only seen pieces of the first movie and thought it was stupid, I don't get why everyone likes it but then I've never been one for brainless action movies with stupid plots.

Oh yes, I wanted to see this film when I saw a preview of it at the cinema in Tulsa, of all places. It actually played at the regular multiplex there for about one week, so I missed it back then and then I forgot the title so I couldn't look it up on Netflix.
No surprise that we CFers won't love the ending too much, Chassids usually have around 12 children. They want the wives to have as many children as their bodies can possibly bear.
Still, it looks like an interesting film. I never get to see Israeli films.
Scorp, check out
Trembling Before G-d, a documentary about Orthodox Jews coming to terms with being gay. Since the possibility of joining Conservative or Reform congregations isn't even explored, I have to draw the conclusion that these particular people believe you are either Orthodox (Chassidic or Modern) or you are completely secular and have left the faith entirely, because they are in a tug of war between how they were raised and what they really are and there's no mention of other options.
There's one adorable guy who is English and when he told his parents he was gay they sent him to Israel where there aren't any gay people. Yeah, right! He's quite openly gay there, able to express himself at gay pride parades, et al. He's really funny.
Then there's the man who was abandoned by his father for being gay, basically ousted from the family, and even though he's in his 50s he still longs for that love from his father. It's heartbreaking to see his rage at the things his parents put him through in the past to "cure" him, and upsetting to see how deep his emotional wounds are. Ahhh religion. The surefire way to destroy families and create permanent emotional turmoil.
"Trembling" is on my Netflix queue! It's pretty far down though...maybe I'll bump it up.
I finally got to see Shrek The Third. It was on HBO last week.
I thought it was good. Not as good as the other 2 but it was ok, considering the sub plot was about Fiona having a baby,
(barf). But at least they did not get too gooie over it. Like most movies do.
And considering it was going to be a baby Oger,it was a bit more entertaining.
The rest of the plot was good as poor Shrek knew he could not be the King of Far Far Away, lol
So that was very cool that he found someone that was the rightful heir.
Its a good rental for any of you who enjoy animated films as much as I do.

No, there's no helpless female in this one. Indy's female counterpart in this movie holds her own just fine without his help, and in fact rescues him a couple of times. The lead villian is also a woman.
I just saw a movie called "The Queen with Helen Mirren & Michael Sheen.
It was an ok movie. I am glad I saw it for free and not paid big theater ticket prices for it.
Of course Helen is a superb actress as The Queen of England
but it was sad reliving Princess Di's death.
I can't believe its been almost 11 years since she has passed.
May she

Not a "pick me up" movie to say the least. LOL
But if your into the royal ways of life its not a bad flick.
Note: I thought it interesting that they portrayed the Queen to
have more feelings over a dead deer then her own ex daughter in law.
So you see, even over there, MIL's are a PITA
LOL
I just watched And the Band Played On. It was the story of the early days of AIDS: the first cases, legislation, discrimination of gays, and the discovery of the virus. It was a very good movie.

I saw this movie with my mom today. Theater was pretty empty.
It was a great movie though.
Finished watching We Are Marshall. True story of the aftermath of the 1970 plane crash that killed the Marshall University football team/coaches/boosters.
Pretty good. Matthew McConaughey was good as the new coach (Though quite odd) and I liked Matthew Fox and David Strathairn was fantastic.
I saw "Evan Almighty" on HBO I had no desire to see it in the show with the rugrats and all.
But I am glad HBO aired it.
It was very good. I was very surprised on how good it really was.
The special effects were great. It had a realistic PLOT and Steve Carell is a hunk! imo of course.
Granted I never got into his series "The Office" cause I never worked in one, an office that is. So I cannot relate to it at all.
I did try watching the show once, and I thought it was stupid imo.
But I still think Steve Carell is handsome. And imo he did a good job in this movie.
Evan Almighty will make a great rental.
And he will make an excellent Maxwell Smart in his new movie coming out soon. Again imo of course

Saw "Don't Mess with the Zohan" over the weekend. It started off a bit flat but got funnier as it went along. There were a lot of Israeli in-jokes though, like the brand of soda they all drink. I wish I'd seen it in a theater full of Jews, because it probably would have been funnier that way.
Watched "300" on cable. I would have liked it a lot better if it had stuck to the real history. It was very embellished and unrealistic, esp. with the made-up evil hunchback character and the weird monsters fighting in the Persian army. I did really enjoy the hot guys wearing nothing but loincloths though!
I watched MidSomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift. I had seen this movie 10 years ago and I really enjoyed it. It even has a creepy funeral director character. Right up my alley.
