I have found that HUGE pictures in signature files that are repeated at the bottom of every post to be irritating.

They are often way way bigger than the response written post and end up dominating the visual space in an ongoing discussion.
( ie the same huge image repeated 10 times in a thread and taking up almost half the visual space in a thread)

Can we set a reasonable limit on the size of signature files?
( ie amount of text and visual)

In my opinion a signature should be a small addendum to a post, not HUGE and dominant and repeated constantly.
I agree. It's a little distracting.
In your own User Control Panel (CP) you can edit the options and go to "Display users' signatures in their posts." Uncheck it, and you won't be able to see other people's sig lines or pictures.
I don't mind normal signatures.
It is the really HUGE pictures in a signature that is the problem.
At least it's not huge photos of sprogs, like all the moos on DelphiForums have.

I agree. These can cause long page loading times for some people.
One aspect is that the 10 or more large pictures in a series of thead replies tend to dominate the thread visually and are not even the topic being discussed.
I didn't even know there were signature pictures. I must have followed Jo's advice too long ago to remember.
One solution is to use FireFox with the AdBlock add-on. You can right click on an image and have the option to block that particular image, images from a particular directory (useful for people who post a lot of pictures that add nothing to the discussion), or even an entire site (useful for ads).

Eddy, I never knew that could be done. I tried it (I use Mozilla and I have a Mac)...and it works! That is just the coolest feature. Not that I mind pics in signatures, but it will be great for other forums.
Now I will try it out on ads.
This is all new to me.. I did not even know it was being done. Let alone know how to do it.lol. As I have never seen it.
But, oh well, live & learn. Smile
Yeah, adblock is great, i use it all the time to block out annoying ads, and its handy for little problems like this as well

Sounds cool where do you get this Ad Block from? Do they have their own web site?
OT. I finally saw what you guys are talking about. Frankly it does not bother me one bit Smile Oh well, to each their own.
in firefox, click on TOOLS, then on ADD-ONS. when the window pops open, click on GET ADD-ONS then search for ADBLOCK.
