I know a woman in her 30s who is very overweight, comes from a dysfunctional home, has a boyfriend who smokes and drinks whom she has lived with for over 10 years, and is not nice to her pit bulls (she uses shock collars all the time for everything). She announced the other day she is pregnant. She said she didn't really want to say anything right away because she's had two miscarriages in the past, but she went ahead and blabbed all about it. I heard about it at one of my agility classes. All the other women were so happy for her. I ignored her.
It sickens me that she wants a baby. She is only bringing more dysfunction in a world that is about ready to self-destruct.
I think she's doing it because she doesn't have anything going on in her life. She runs a pit bull kennel but I don't think it's taking off like she wanted it to. Her boyfriend is an idiot. She also says she is back in college to be a veterinarian (yeah right).
She is a woman I spent a weekend with for an agility trial. It was one of the worst weekends I ever had. I hated listening to her talk about how she mistreats her dogs. To top it all off her politics are right-wing conservative. I am so not happy for her at all. I hope she has a miscarriage.
My Goodness, I wouldn't be happy for her either. She sounds like someone that I would want to slap on a regular basis.
She should be reported to PETA.
A miscarriage would be a stroke of luck for that baby. And it's probably not at all unlikely, either.
Yuck. I can't be happy for anyone who announces to me that they're adding yet another resource sucker to the planet while a jillion orphans are out there who'd love to have parents, but this woman sounds horrible, that kid's in for a shitty as hell life.
She sounds like an awful person. I agree with Anastasia, the kid is going to have a shitty life.

ITA. I understand why you aren't offering congratulations. I wouldn't either. Yuk.
Yes, I knew you guys would all understand. She thinks she is so bad-ass because her pit bull is #2 in agility in the country and also wins in weight-pull, Schutzhund, and obedience. Her dog ranks high because there aren't that many pit bulls who compete in agility. The part that gets me so is how she thinks she is so great. Our trainer who is a really nice person, an agility judge and helped re-train the pit bulls, is a mother of a darling little 3-year-old. Our trainer is a super sweet, smart person and a great mother. The newly pregnant pit bull lady has given her shit for wanting to stay with her daughter at home instead of going to an agility trial. Bitch lady said she doesn't know why our trainer can't just leave her daughter with someone for the weekend which is what her mother did to her when she was young. Bitch lady's mother was 16 when she had her and gave her to her grandparents to raise. She didn't know her mother until she was much older.
I don't know how many other people in our agility class know about her past, and if they did, how much of a difference it would make with how happy they are for her that she is going to have a baby. I bet they would overlook it all and still be all smiles and full of advice around her.
Ugh, it's so discouraging to see people who really shouldn't have kids having them and bringing a child into an emotionally damaging situation. The people in the agility class who congratulated that woman probably don't actually know much about her past, or else are just being polite because they don't know what else to say.
ITA that the others are just congratulating her because they either don't know about her past or don't know what else to say. I totally understand-how can you be happy for her when you know the baby is in for one hell of a dysfunctional life-and she's going to be pretty much the entire cause of the problem. I wouldn't be able to congratulate her, either. The child will probably need years of therapy to try and overcome what its in for.
I think it's a knee-jerk social reaction to congratulate someone on a pregnancy. And they probably prefer not to think about the child's future, either, if they have any clue at all about the mother.
Ugh. It sounds awful but I really hope she does miscarry. This is not a loving situation by any means from the sound of it and I feel sorry for her dogs.
Ditto. Especially animal abusers who breed MORE animal abusers.
Double yuck!

Not only should she not breed she shouldn't have dogs. Have you considered an anonymous call to the humane society or animal control?
RemainFree: No. I don't think there's anything illegal about what she's doing. I think it is wrong. She has told me in detail why she has to have absolute control with her dogs. It is b/c pits have such a bad reputation and if they ever get in a tiff with another dog, she will be blamed no matter what, which is why she uses the electric collars so much. Doesn't make it right, but that's her rationale for being so mean. She is also very fat and can't move very fast which is why I think she is so into using the collar for the tiniest thing. She doesn't want to get up off her fat ass.
Eddy: lol!! Each time I pull up to agility class, I hope there is news that she miscarried.
