LOL & ITA with you both NKB & Lulu.
Btw Lulu have you decided on anything yet?
As in trying to quit smoking for good. Or at least cut down even more then you may already have?
If you can get it to a point where your only smoking one cig a day, that would be awesome.
Then the next step would be to quit in full.
That is IF you still want to.
And Of course you always have every right to speak your mind as well.
So, no worries from me, lol
PEACE!

^Well, I haven't solidly picked a day yet, but I'm on the verge. Right now I've cut back as far as I can before going cold. I smoke one cig every several hours to keep me from getting the cranky pants withdrawal syndrome. I don't want to go through withdrawal in small doses, I'd rather just go through it all at once and be done, so until the day comes I'll still be smoking a few a day. I am thinking either two weeks to three weeks from now, but have yet to pick the actual date. It's starting to become solid in my mind though, that I am going to quit again. When I started this thread it was more a half thought but it's solidified now. It's gonna be hard, but the actual withdrawal never lasts more than three days if all my prior attempts are any judge. It's definitely going to be hard though.
I'm just going to enjoy them for now, while I still can.
God...I can talk a lot about smoking and cigarettes and quitting...it's like when that topic is on the tip of my tongue my tongue just won't stop wagging.
LOL, too true.

I find that it is easier to pick a date by choosing your Favorite number & possibily your fav month as well.
For me I quit on June 14th.. Fourteen being my lucky number as it applys to everything major in my life.
I was born on the 14th
I graduated HS on the 14th
and I got married on the 14th
So, it was only natural for me to quit smoking on the 14th as well.
And June, well, that just happened on its own. But it is a very nice month, lol.
Some people do have their fav months. So it can make things easy for you to pick out a target date. This way you can prepare yourself for the long battle ahead.
Lulubelle I KNOW you can do it

I quit about five years ago cold turkey. My husband quit using patches at the same time because he didn't have the will power without the patches. It was the best thing I've ever did for my health and my life. I always tell people that if they fail trying to quit one way, try another way. Don't quit trying until you're finally successful.

Well, I've picked a date. I decided to go with the day after my birthday, which is in a couple months. I know, I said I'd do it sooner, but I've been under a great deal of stress. But finally picked the day at least, I thought after my birthday would be better...you know...since I want to enjoy that...

Great! You know you'll get plenty of support here. And it gives you time to read that book I recommended, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Believe me, it really IS easy, or BJ would never have done it.

CONGRATS
On picking a date Lulu I am very proud of you. This means you have not given up the hope of trying. And that is very important as well.
For me quitting "Cold Turkey" and without any self help books
Was really a case of "Mind over Mattter".
You have to really WANT this so bad that you will do anything to achieve it. And if you have that mind set and Keep it going strong. There is no doubt in my mind that YOU CAN DO THIS

My personal opinion is that picking a date months down the line would not have worked for me. You will spend the next few months thinking of nothing else. It's a waste of time and energy and will kick your anxiety into overdrive.
What's that Lonestar song? "What About Now?"
What about now?
How 'bout tonight?
Baby for once let's not think twice
We'll take that spin that never ends that we've been talking about
What about now?
LOL I love country music, what can I say.
I would say just quit right now. Seriously. MHO. When I quit, I actually just waited for payday to buy the patch, but I really only decided to quit probably two days before. Too much time to think about it seems to me to be too much time to change your mind and come up with excuses for a new date months further down the line. You will always have stresses. There is no 'good time' to quit. Pardon me... Anytime is a good time. MHO

I agree with Jo.
My DH has set quit dates and they never work because they are too far down the line. The longest you should do is three weeks. Anything longer than that and you're setting yourself up for failure. There is too much time for excuses. Work is stressful right now or what about that big party we're going to, I can't quit then. There's always some excuse.
DH would say "I'm going to quit on my birthday". His birthday is in July. He'd set the quit date in March. Not. Going. To. Happen.
Having said that, I wish you the best of luck!

Jo & NKB have a valid point about long time date settings.
To be honest I really don't remember setting my Target date for June 14th. I think it just happened that way. If anything I KNOW for a fact that I did NOT set the date so far in advance.
Cause I know myself too. And I know I am the type that would stress about it. And find new excuses for not following through.
So for me, it was more out of health needs that I chose to quit.
And as for why I quit on the 14th? Well I think that was just out of luck!
Anyway, I remember that I was just so sick & tired of being sick & tired,
That I just had to quit! And I am so very happy I did!
Christ the cost alone now for ciggs is through the roof.
I remember when Salems were a buck a pack! lol.
But anyway, the choice will always be yours Lulu. So whatever you decide to do. You know you have our full support here at WKYN
