I also think Koi's idea is a good one!!
just change your name. I don't see why what other people think is important. Do you really want to live your life by what other people think? Does anyone you know live their life based on what you think? Most likely, no.

I advise taking your time. Do it when you are truly ready. How about Samantha Christina and then go by your middle name? That's what I do b/c my first name is the same as my mother's. I like someone's idea of sending out announcements. Sure people will talk and some might insist on calling you by your old name, but new people and people who really care about your feelings will work on saying your new name when they want to talk to you.

Good luck!!! I'd also ask my DH to start calling me what I want to be called ASAP, regardless of legalities.
I think you should do whatever you want. I think it sucks that we spend our entire lives with the names we were born with, which someone else picked out for us, and that we have no control over. Why shouldn't you pick a name you like? Even if it's the one that your niece picked for her kid?

ROFL! Seriously? People think your name is JEW???? That's pretty freaking funny.

Have none of these people ever read "Little Women"?
As CFS said about living your whole life with a name you didn't pick, it's absurd! If your parents gave you an outfit that didn't fit, you wouldn't wear it your whole life. You'd exchange it if you possibly could. It's hard to name a baby and have it be right all the person's life. My parents messed that up, and so I changed my name as I was changing jobs and locations, the perfect time. My mother hated it, but it wasn't her name. When you give something, it's not yours anymore. The owner gets to dispose of it as they please.

When I was in high school I knew this girl who had no first name, just an initial, J. Her parents realized it was very hard to give the right name, so they gave her some latitude. Before she graduated, she chose "Jayne" in time for her diploma to be printed. She had tried a out a bunch of J-names prior and finally settled on that when she was old enough to know what she liked. I think all children should have provisional names, or the legal system should allow one free name change after 18. Parents don't always know best.
There was a thread here a while ago about people who name all of their kids beginning with a certail letter. e.g.-Joan, Jim, Jack, and their cousins are John, Joe and Jessica. I wonder if any of these siblings are tempted to change their first name to break the chain of name games.

I recall seeing a news story a long time ago about a guy who's actual name is Santa Claus. He didn't change it to that name-his family's last name is Claus, and it was somebody's turn to come up with a name for the baby (yes, each family member had a turn to come up with a name and that's what they stick with). So whoever's turn it was to come up with a name thought it would be cute to name the baby Santa. He's now middle aged or even older. For some reason he decided to stick with the name. It's funny in some cases but other times it was a real pain in the butt. If it was me, I would've changed it the second I became of legal age to do so.
Grouphug THANK YOU EVERYONE. You all have given me a lot to THINK about. I will chew over all the Facts and opinions and let you all know what I finally decide to do.
Nothing is set in stone yet.

FYI.. I am aware that many of you think Celia is a pretty name.
BUT you would not think it to be so pretty when your in a Doctors office
and the nurse calls out Is "CeCelia here"
"Uh duh NO.... do you actually see a Ce in front of my name?
Or are you just so totally dumb that you cannot read".
That is what I like to say to them. But I have to bite my tongue and constantly correct them.
This happens 95% of my entire life, which is why I am fed up with it.
That and or I get various misspellings of my name in the name
CeCelia
CeCillia
Cessily
Cecella
Etc etc

It just irks me to no end that People think & assume that Celia is Short for CeCelia and its NOT!! At least NOT in my case.
Which is why I have all of my interent pals call me CC
I figure if the working world wants to see a second C where none exsists, I might as well give it to them, LOL.
So that is my inside story to my nickname of CC
Plus added to that, I was NEVER given a middle name period!
So that middle name idea is a VERY good one too, thanks
But I still need to think on it.
Thanks again to one and all.
Not to worry I will keep you posted.
Right now, I have a lot on my brain right now, what with trying to get my mothers house ready for sale.
( see new post in Whine Thread called Goodwill Gripe)
There's been a thread here about creative spelling of kids' names and some are totally ridiculous It looks like creative spelling of your name would have been a good thing though. It's too bad your mother didn't have your name spelled Selia or Silya or something like that.

LOL thats been done to me too,(those spellings that is) Only by the US Post Office and various junk snail mails. So, you can see now, WHY I hate my name so much.
But for now. While "the will" is still in trust and so is the estate.
I cannot change my name right now.
I have to wait till everything is sold, done and gone. Where I won't need to deal with any legal papers in regards the estate or to my brother and the Trust fund. Once I get my $$ and kiss his sorry ass goodbye.
And Once that is all done, then I can think about taking the steps to getting it done.
That is, IF, I don't chicken out, lol.
