Hey, I wanted to update on my Essure procedure. It's now time for me to get the test to see if my tubes are properly blocked.

the real reason I'm posting is about the cost of this thing. Originally the bill was over $14k and it was saying I had to pay almost all of it. I was so mad!! That is not what I was quoted on the phone at all, not even close. I was beginning to wonder how much sex without a condom is worth. I did the b.c. pills for years and decided I didn't want to take them anymore so hubby and I were using condoms for years. Condoms are no fun. But after seeing that first bill, I wasn't sure if it was at all worth it.

We kept waiting for the final bill because they all kept saying it was an estimate of benefits. Well, the latest one came through saying the original $14k was now billed at $11k something...OK that's good, how much do I owe? Answer: $400. That is it. I am so happy I can hardly believe it. The insurance paid both ob-gyn and anesthesiologist fees = over $1600 and 96% of the hospital bill! Wow, I feel like I have an entire cluster of lucky stars following me.
Congrats! That's great news. $400 - totally worth it!!
ITA that the $400 is worth the piece of mind! I hate when hospital/doctor bills come in and they're so confusing-especially when they're waiting for insurance to pay their part.
Hope your HSG goes well. I've had them done twice because of period issues and found the test to be less than pleasant, but I've heard they are not too bad if you get a good doctor and some decent meds beforehand.
Thanks Dune67. I will keep that in mind.
Can i ask...that quote was for America right?

Im just asking my private medical fund how much they cover for either tubal litigation or vasectomy now... Im not sure that our funds cover so much of a portion of it...

As far as im concerned, sterilisation should be FREE for anyone that wants one... :-)
Stella, yes American insurance in New Mexico, Presbyterian Health Plan. My doctor recommended I go under anesthesia b/c he felt since I have never given birth, the thing that they use to insert would be painful. I chose the anesthesia route.

Your insurance company can tell you their policy if you call them. My Essure was 100% free. They paid every cent! I did have to wait a few months because back then it was a "new" procedure (5 years ago) so the insurance hadn't caught up. They had it up for approval 1/1/05 and my operation was just a couple of weeks afterward.
