I'm going to Florida this year for my winter holiday. YAY! Aiming for the Treasure Island/Tampa/Clearwater area, but might wind up just about anywhere, you know me. I'm roadtripping, and a bit nervous about heading out tomorrow because the weather forecasts are terrible, but what the hey. I am craving some sun and warmth!!
Enjoy your trip! As you know, I'm jealous

I think that this will be my last 'end-of-year holidays' at home for a while (the only exception is if someone ends up really ill, which hopefully won't happen) and I can't wait for it to be over.
Although I am super-productive at work this week!
Have a nice vacation! Some nice sun shine will be perfect right about now.
Bye-bye Jo. Have a safe trip. Florida sounds fun.
Thanks you guys... I'm halfway there... somewheresville, West Virginia, holed up for the night at a Howard Johnsons...
my leaving was VERY bittersweet though, as last night my BFF INSISTED I come over even though I wasn't packed and not really in the mood to go. When I got there, her BF, our friend Jim and I were there, and she had an announcement for us. She has stage three cancer that has migrated to multiple organs and basically the doctors told her she should be getting her affairs in order. I'm just stunned. Spent most of the night crying, had breakfast with her this morning and she sounded MUCH more positive this morning, saying she wants to come to Alaska this summer with me for Lindsay's wedding (LOL we're assuming we're invited) so that's good. She's scheduled for 14 rounds of chemo starting on Monday. I feel like I should be there for her, but she INSISTED I go to Florida and get her tons of Tinkerbell shit from the Disney stores. AGGHH LOL, of course I will.
Anyhow, it's been a rough day. Normally I *love* driving long distances, I really zen out and enjoy the ride. Today was hard. Got another 13 hours of driving tomorrow.

Jo, that's so sad, I'm sorry about your friend.
I worried about you driving in the snowstorms all day. I'm glad you posted to let us know where you are. Hope you have a great trip despite the bad news.
No snowstorms my way! Ice storms in North Carolina, but I was fine... I have snowtires. LOL
I'm in Savannah, GA at the moment at a truck stop. Just made a TON of new friends (truckers) over diner dinner. It was lovely. LOL
Glad to hear everything's going well, Jo! My mom has a ton of friends that are truckers - they're really the nicest people!
Have fun in Florida! I can't wait until I can make it down to see my friends again.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend! What kind of cancer does she have - stage 3 isn't necessarily a death sentence - unless it's ovarian... and even then, there may be hope for her. It's great that she has you to help her through this - I will be thinking of both of you and hoping for her recovery. Hugs to both of you.
Jo, I just wanted to say that I am very sorry to hear about your friend.
Yeah, it royally sucks. I told her Stage 3 is not a death sentence, either, but it was cervical (stage one) and she had a full hysterectomy and chemo, and now it's three, so it's gotten worse despite the treatment. But our hopes are still high.
Jo, if you're in Clearwater, look out for the Sea Org staff members!
ROFL Anastasia, I was actually hoping to picket in Clearwater with Anonymous while I'm there, but I packed in such a rush, I forgot my Guy Fawkes mask. LOL
When I went to visit DH while he was living in Tampa almost a year ago, we drove out to Clearwater to have a look at them. They have the whole town, blue uniforms were everywhere. No picket the day we were there. There was a picket in San Francisco at the Co$ building there that we happened to walk by last summer, and it was awesome!
There's some good news - Stage 3 cervical cancer is only fatal in five years about 50% of the time.
I hope the trip is going well.
Update: Jo spent the afternoon with us here outside Tampa, and is en route to St Pete Beach/Treasure Island. We had a blast, and she'll be posting pictures soon. Well, soon-like.
CNK: She does not have stage three cervical... her cervix was removed during they hysterectomy when she had stage one. I think as of now, after it spread, she has tumors in her colon and liver, possibly bladder. She was not too coherent when she was telling us, and I'm sure there is more to it than meets the eye. It doesn't look good. But it's not a death sentence.
and re: UPDATE! YEAH! Eslbee and Joyce ROCK! I had a such a nice afternoon with them, LOVING the dogs, the conversation and the yummy lunch!

Today was the first sunny day yet, and I'm probably headed north tomorrow to get back in time to spend NYE with my friend Joy. But here is the Florida sunshine in my face. GOTTA LOVE IT!

Did you take some pix of the Sea Org peeps?
What are those, Anastasia? I don't think they're us!
