The Sea Org is the top tier staff wing of the Church of $cientology. They wear faux Navy uniforms and they even have a ship. The Clearwater FLAG is one of their big HQs. It's where they killed Lisa McPherson. Most people in Clearwater are connected to the cult.
They abuse their members, force women to have abortions, send members to a horrible work camp if they don't live up to expectations, and make them sign billion year contracts. If you want to quit the Sea Org due to all the abuses, they call you a "degraded being," and you're so brainwashed by then you actually believe them.
Here's lots of good info. Thanks to Jo for pointing me in the direction of learning all about the insanity that is $cientology!

Thanks, Anastasia. I will have to check this out. Cults fascinate me. Clearwater is about 40 miles away. We never go there.

I don't blame you, there's nothing there but freaky $cientologists.
This past summer the St Petersburg Times did a series on the cult because a few high ranking members escaped and provided a very frightening inside look into David Miscavige and the crimes of $cientology. It's fascinating.

I am obsessed with $cientologists... I read all the sites Anastasia linked to, and subscribe to Tori's vlog. Half the reason I went to Clearwater was to stop and stare.
GET THIS. The freakin place is a GHOST TOWN! The Flag building is under construction and there was NO one anywhere to be found. I saw one lone kid walking the street with a navy sweater on with "IAS" emblazoned on it. I parked and walked around the perimeter of the building, snapping pics and checking out the Fort Harrison Hotel, and there were some construction workers, but it was CREEPILY quiet.
I had no idea. I thought the area would be bustling with culties. Not at all. They are all in hiding since Anonymous came on the scene.

It's also close to Christmas. Do they do something special for the holiday? Maybe they go into hiding to avoid all the other religious crap. Ensure that all people who are former christians, jews, and muslims are not reminded of what they left behind. Just a complete guess though... It could be that they are trying to avoid being seen!

I'm obsessed, too! I'm sure the absence doesn't have anything to do with xmas or shunning the season, they don't really care about that kind of stuff because it's not really a religion, it's a business that uses mind control. They don't pray or have church services or anything like that.
It could be Anonymous, or it could be the new lawsuit against David Miscavige for human trafficking that was filed last month. They're all a-scared!

My brush with cults is with the Raelians.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raelians
There are piles of them in Quebec (their UFOland is near Montreal)

They aren't nearly as interesting as the Scientologists though, as they are open about their cult (most of the time) and their followers are primarily drawn to the cult because of it's open policy on sex. I was visiting a store in Quebec with a friend of mine and she mentioned that the owner was a Raelian and he occasionally asks her if she wants to join him and his wife. Oddly enough, she declines.
