If I recall, no, Hurley did not obtain the franchise from his lottery winnings but rather, because of his love of chicken, saved up and bought a store and then it went from there and he built his empire. That's what I gathered, anyway.

ETA: OK, I just watched the beginning again on line and it mentioned nothing about Hurley buying the franchise with his lottery winnings. During the introduction to his "Everybody Loves Hugo" party, it said that he came from humble beginnings blah, blah, blah, and that his "love of Mr. Clucks Chicken led him to acquire and then expand the Mr. Cluck's chain into a worldwide phenomenon."

Makes sense, he never heard the Numbers, so he never played them.
Correct - but he's still rich so part of his sideways story remains the same.

Grrr...how many episodes are left? Four? I can't take it.

PrairieGirl

I guess it's the difference between having it handed to you (lottery) and earning it through hard work.
I liked the part where Libby kissed Hugo, and all the memorys of the island came flooding in on him.
That was cool
Also can anyone here tell me why Hugo/Hurley has 2 first names?
What is his REAL first name? Is it Hugo or Hurley?
I wish they would stick to one name, Lost is complicated enough.
Also that was wild that locke got hit by a car while he was in his wheelchair. WOW that takes some balls running over a man in a wheelchair!
( shaking my head in disgust)
Hurley's real name is Hugo Reyes. Hurley is the nickname. Most people on this show have more than one name. Lots of aliases and/or nicknames.
You know, I didn't really care for Desmond when he first popped on the scene ("What did one snowman say to the other snowman?"), but man has he grown on me. Can he have is own show? Maybe just driving around, running people over?

PrairieGirl

It looks like Desmond is trying to make all the Oceanic 815 passengers have that "epiphany". Since Locke is dead, and Locke's body is being inhabited by an evil entity, I wonder what epiphany will have?

I like the idea from that article that everyone lives without love -- but Locke is the exception. He has the girl he always wanted, and she really loves him. But then again, if this is the life they get if they get off the island, why does Locke have a life at all? -- he can't be brought back from the dead!

EXACTLY birthday Twin, that is why I am so confused.
WTF is this show all about, nothing but total confusion, lol.
And Thanks Paloma for the name clarification. I Know some folks Like Kate has nick names like "Freckles" And Jack has "Doc" but
I did not know which name was Hugo's real first name.
Thanks, Now I know it really is HUGO!
And I have always liked Desmond he is a hunk, lol.

My theory: I don't think that the sideways flash is what they get if they get off the island. I think it is what is actually happening now that they detonated the hydrogen bomb that changed the whole timeline. But somehow the island is immune to the effects of the alternate timeline, so that's how the people can be both on and off the island at the same time. Where it gets hairy though, is when (if) some of the people leave the island...What happens when island Sawyer meets off-island Sawyer?

I'm gonna guess that Desmond is going to somehow go back and undo the bomb that created the alternate timeline.

So, all the whispers are dead bad people who are stuck on that island. Sounds like hell to me.
No, the flash sideways is what WOULD have happened had the plane not crashed.

If you recall, when Desmond met Claire he asked her "Weren't you on Oceanic flight 815 from Australia?"

Any guesses as to who Jack's wife is? We still don't know.

Can I just say Sayid...yum....is he even better looking than he was before? Damn he's hot.

I think you're almost right. The whole point of blowing up the bom was to destroy what made the plane crash (the hatch station where Desmond crashed the plane by not typing the numbers in the computer). Juliet said it worked...meaning detonating the bomb back in 1977 changed history so that the plane in the present didn't crash. That happened! Therefore, the flash sideways isn't what would have happened...it's what is happening since they did prevent the plane crash.
OK so meanwhile back on the island.. Jack is now dead? As Locke says your one of us now. WTF
I am not to hot on my jack dying in all of this.
I hope I am wrong. But then again it would be a miracle if he survived that blast! So,on we go.. Hey maybe everyone has to be dead in order to come back? lol
This is one screwy show. I can't wait for it to end.
But the sideways flashes go back farther than just surviving that plane trip. I mean, Jack's son is far older, and Sawyer's life of crime had stretched back farther. So it can't just be about the plan not crashing. It has to be decisions made years ago, or something like that. Of course, Kate was still an alleged murderer, arsonist, etc. And Sayid couldn't stop being a bad ass mofo if he tried.
OK, that's all the figuring I can do this week.
Jack and his son were adorable together, in their matching suits. They really found a kid who looked like the actor.
It was so good to see Sun and Jin together again, finally. I honestly thought TPTB would save that reunion for the final episode.
And Desmond is some kind of weird guardian angel, roving around LA granting wishes and running over paraplegics.
I would watch an entire series of the sideways Losties. They are fascinating. OK, especially Sawyer and Miles as cops. And Hurley with his chicken empire. And Des, with his sunglasses.

I could not have said all of this better myself Clap for you Paloma
And ITA I LOVED seeing the Jin/Sun reunion. And I thought TPTB would save it for the last show too, so your not alone on that thought. And of course I love Mr Dimples in anything he does, LOL Hug<< Oh if only I could hug Sawyer like that, lol
Maybe Jacob influenced decisions for the candidates years before the plane crash so in the altered timeline that didn't happen. I don't remember, was Jacob killed when the island was in 1977 or in present day?
Present day. Ben killed him and adult Ben never went to 1977.
So any speculations as to how this show will end?
Only 4 more episodes left TG
Basically I only watch this show for the sake of my BFF
If it was not for her, I would not even watch this drek.
I guess I am showing my age Oldman What happened to good old fashioned simple shows, shows that made sence like
"Dallas" or Dynasty" LOL Now those were SHOWS! LOL
imho of course.
as for Lost, well, I have a bad feeling the end will leave many people ticked off, and I hate to see it coming.
But my fear is that they will end this all with the fact that yes the plane did crash and everyone was killed period and
That the island with all of its magic made everyone think they were alive, when they were all very dead from the get go. So, all of this was all a big dream or nightmare, whichever the case may be. That is my speculation, to which I HOPE I am very wrong on, lol
Was it not on last night?
No, they showed a "pop-up" version of the Richard-centric episode. I was bummed there wasn't a new one, but I'm looking forward to watching this one anyway (I have it on my DVR, didn't get to watch it live).

Vanessa
Oh good. I looked for it on my DVR the next day and couldn't find it. I thought it didn't record, for some reason.
