NK, it should play the CDs right out of the box. I do know the first time you put a CD in to play, it will ask you if you would like to connect to the internet to download information about the CD. It is similar to when you put a CD in a computer and it downloads the information about the tracks (track number, title, artist, etc). you can say yes or no to that and it will then go ahead and play the CD. I am almost certain every version of the PS3 has the same set up for CDs, but maybe one of the older ones required downloading a plug in to play audio CDs. I'd be really shocked if that were the case though.

OK, thanks Joe. Maybe I just misunderstood what it was telling me.
Try popping one in and see what it says when you get the chance. If it does in fact say you need to download something, let me know, i'd be interested in hearing about that.

Unfortunately, not every movie I want to see on Netflix is available for live streaming, but hopefully that will change. It's totally worth it to get a Blu-Ray player because it's all going in that direction anyway.
Anastasia, I went to BestBuy the other night and I saw a couple of the Blu-Ray players that stream NETFLIX. That is just the coolest feature!
DH has finally agreed that a Blu-Ray player or PS3 is the way to go. We are getting new flat-screen TVs for the living room and for DHs office, so I would prefer to get the same brand Blu-Ray player so I only need to use 1 remote.
I am a total idiot when it comes to multiple remotes and programming a Universal remote has always been a PITA for me.

OK - my bad. All it did was ask me a question no related to dowloading info and then it played the CD.
Arkved,
Is there some way that I can do to get my Wii to play dvds?
It would be great because that will be one less dvd player I will need to buy.
NKB, glad to hear the playback works for you.
Beachbum, Yes, the Wii CAN play back DVDs, but unless you are comfortable with hacking your Wii i wouldnt recommend it. Out of the box, Wii does NOT support DVD play back. you can however install software on to the Wii that will allow for DVD playback. If you are interested, i can get you the links for it, but it might be simpler to just stick with the old DVD box unless you plan on upgrading to a PS3 or XBox. XD
