Comments? Apparently his soon-to-be-ex-wife is pretty handy with a golf club, herself!
Stupid fucking moron. This is karma biting him in the ass for his membership at a golf course that doesn't admit women.
We've been having fun with the jokes at work, but that's about it. My favourite:
What's the difference between a Cadillac Escalade and a golf ball?
Tiger Woods can drive the golf ball more than 300 yards.
Other than that... I totally don't understand why people in the U.S. care about the sex lives of their public figures.
We have that Puritan background. If you don't want to keep a vow, don't take one. Simple. No one can make anyone else get married. Why didn't he just hire her as a surrogate mother? I don't *care* care, I find it hilarious that he thought he was above it all. No one is.
I think Tiger himself is to blame for how this story got so out of control. If he would have done a few things differently it would not have turned out this way. 1. Talk to the cops. He avoided them on a number of ocassions and went out and hired a criminal defense attorney. He automatically looked guilty of something. He would have just had to tell them that he and his wife were having a hearted argument and he lost control driving away. The most he could have been hit with with a minor traffic charge for hitting the fire hydrant because it's public property or maybe some other BS charge like "failure to control a motor vehicle". The domestic angle wouldn't have mattered unless one of them wanted to swear out a complaint.
2. Give the media something. He could have faced the fire and said
"I screwed up and things got out of hand". Believe it or not, you give the media something and they'll go away -- and go away pretty quickly. It amazes me in this day and age that people who hire all kinds of consultants and experts to help craft their image can't understand that.
I'm also curious about these women he was involved with. We've seen the type in these kinds of scandals before. They are all nothing more than walking ads for Restaline. Their 'careers' are socialite, cocktail waitress and reality TV star. I honestly want to know why men find these women attractive. They all remind me of Paris Hilton. I just don't get it, but maybe it explains why I was so seldom asked out on dates when I was single.
I also don't buy the claim that Tiger was just giving in to pressures of being on the road and having women throw themselves at him. He was involved with one of these women for 31 months -- that's nearly 3 years.
I've enjoyed the jokes too, and this really hasn't changed my opinion of Tiger Woods because I really never had an opinion of him. He's a great golfer to be sure but I never knew that much about him and quite frankly never really cared.
Yes, he should have done what David Letterman did - deal with the media head on. If you go to them, you beat them to the punch and there is nothing to report because you've already reported it. Beat them at their own game.
I for one don't believe this is news worthy however, for his sponsors and his endorsements he could lose a ton of money. His "Squeaky Clean" image is what made him the endorsement king that he is and I wonder how all those companies will feel now.
Serves him right for stepping out on his wife not once, but twice - that we know of.
Typical man. Can't keep his dick in his pants.
My dad fooled around with many women his whole life. It used to really really bother me, but not so much anymore. When I hear about celebrities and politicians acting the same way, I say what is the big deal, really. So another man cheats on his wife or vice versa? Happens all the time...but then the media makes big deals when celebrities have babies, and I definitely don't think that is such a big deal either.
In my opinion, issues like this come down to a very simple morality.
'Does your clear and specific word (ie vow) mean anything?'
In this case, this man vowed to be monogamous to this woman.
He did so publicly, clearly and in an indisputable way.
( We can deal with open marriage separately, but judging from her response, this was NOT an open marriage)
In my view of ethics, your solemn word should be one of the greatest things that you have in life.
To break your word hundreds of times on purpose on a single issue is very ethically sleazy.
BTW. I am not in pursuit of traditional marriage or defending it.
There have been a number of sportscasters and former pro athletes commenting that infidelity is rampant among pro athletes. The athletes are on the road much of the year and there always throngs of women/girls in every city who want to sleep with them. Most of the athletes are in their twenties, so they still have the wild party animal instinct in them, even if they marry their high school sweetheart and have kids right away. I guess the only reason why the Woods case is any more unique is because he has been marketed from childhood to be the All-American nice guy with high morals and became one of the best ever in his sport. It looks like he got a new lesson in morality by being used as a golfing tee.
I think it's naive to think the wives of this "rampant" infidelity don't know what they're getting into. They want the lifestyle that comes with being married to a rich and famous guy and in exchange they pretend they don't know their dude is fooling around on their roadtrips.

ITA. I also had no opinion of TW so there's nothing to change. And, indeed, what did he see in these women? They were definitely not flings - they lasted too long for him to claim that. And he certainly mishandled it from the get-go.
I wonder how he got away with all these affairs all this time - the guy must have papparazi following him 24/7. No one noticed him sneaking into hotels or where ever he conducted the affairs? He must have been a scheduling genius, anyway, to juggle all these women. As well as a sex addict.
If the rumours are true and the marriage is a sham for appearances only and the wife has been well compensated and knew what she was getting into to then good on her. She's basically earning a living and looking out for her best interest. However, if she's an innocent victim to his "transgressions" I hope she takes him for whatever she can.
Regardless, I predict the 2010 Masters will be the most watched Masters in the history of the event. I'm just saying...

ITA. A lot of people cheat. Big deal. Men who are celebrities have their pick of beautiful women everywhere they go. It would take a saint to turn them all down. Most people are only human.
ETA: The main reason stories like these get so much press is because the media is trying to distract us from the war.
It's not just the wars, but the economy, the bi-partisan bickering, and all the other crap happening in the US that nobody is willing to actually address.

FWIW, not by me. I seldom watch any men's sports except the NFL. I don't watch golf unless occasionally women, and I would NEVER watch the Master's because the club discriminates against women. Karma has bitten the slutty Tiger in the ass. Last I heard he was up to 13 known receptacles.
I don't buy the "So what, everyone does it?" angle. Marriage is a mutual promise of fidelity, among MANY other obligations. No one has to be married. You want to play around, no problem. Stay single. I hope she takes him to the cleaners.
If that's the deal they made, then that's the deal they made. Marriage is different things to different people. Not everyone follows the traditional rules of marriage. Look at us for example. Millions of people think marriage is for procreation only. Not everyone agrees with our reasons for getting married.
Tiger is narcissistic and an egomaniac if he thought he could get away with this forever without anyone finding out. Strange how one little event can change your life forever.

We don't know what deal they made. If they made a deal that he would be a slut and she would be rich, fine. They could turn off all the negative press if they said their marriage was a mutual business deal. But so far, we're being told he was unfaithful. That suggests agreed-upon vows. No one has to take any vow they don't want to. If you can't keep a vow to your most beloved person, how can you be taken at your word under any other circumstance?
Either way, it sounds like she's divorcing him so whatever the case may be, she's not too pleased.
I hope she takes him for all he's worth.

If she doesn't, the lawyers will. We're talking about a billion dollars that he's earned and counting. The lawyers are going to have a hayday with this case. They know that money's no object when a rich couple breaks up and are out for blood. They will drag this through the courts until doomsday to squeeze out every ounce of blood money. Then there will be a custody battle for the kids.
I get the feeling the marriage was more of a business arrangement than a case of true love. He wanted a trophy wife and pop out a few kids to maintain his image as Mr. Wonderful and she wanted a handsome bank account. Why else would they have a prenup saying that if she stays in the marriage for X number of years, she'll get X millions of dollars?
I guess he won't be back in the golf circuit until the divorce is settled and doesn't have to hand over his earnings to her or the lawyers. I can't imagine what the child support paymenys would be if she gets custody of the kids.
Good point about the pre-nup, especially because of the extent to which it benefits HER. They may never have had much reason to trust one another.
This thing could take years to settle, but he'll probably want to just pay her off and move on. Then he'll be the latest celebrity playboy - a big hot item. Ugh. I've heard it's up to like 14 women now and counting? Doesn't seem possible that he got away with this for so long!
