So, I was on another forum that I frequent.
Some man posted a feel-good story (trying to make himself look like some hero-of course). The first thing that I thought was, "Boy, this sounds really familiar", but I didn't give it much more thought after that. Well, shortly after that, another member points out to this fellow that "his" story has been floating around the internets lately and that Snopes actually shows the exact same story circulating back in 2003!

The guy throws a fit. The funny thing is, I've read many of his posts in the past and almost all of them sound like copy-cat stories that he is trying to take credit for. Makes a lot of sense now.

Why would people even do this? It is so odd to me.
They must know that they are eventually going to get caught up in their web of lies. My experience with this type of person is that they have told the phony story to themselves so many times and sooo want it to be true, that they actually begin to think it is real! Sadly, you never know what is real or what is made-up.
And to fly off the handle when called out on it. When someone has such a fit, they are usually guilty as can be. Shame.
ROFL, back in the nineties, I went to college (library school) with a CRAZY woman who, in an effort to fit in with all the other housewives and moms who were returning to school, concocted some CRAZY ass story about her husband (supposedly a doctor) and two kids, one of whom was supposedly an infant. I personally called her out one day when she told us the kids were at camp, and I said YOU SENT A SIX MONTH OLD TO CAMP? and she backpedalled something fierce, and finally settled on the lie-du-jour, "it was a Jewish camp" not that that made any sense either.

One day she brought in a picture of "her mom with the baby" and it was CLEARLY a picture of her mom with her as a baby, as the photo was old and yellowed with rounded corners (from the 70s) and the decor was all 70s. It was unreal. How she could say this shit with a straight face was beyond any of us.

Sure enough, someone called the hospital where her pretend husband worked, and of course there was no one there by that name. It was sad, really. I did feel bad for her, but I don't tolerate lies well, and I don't know why she insisted on lying so much.
I had always wished, at my previous job, that I had told them I had a kid. Then if they asked me to work late, I could have said "Sorry, I have to pick up Junior from day care!" But honestly, I never could have pulled that off. I'm no actress.
I have someone at work who also has lied about having a husband. Unfortunately her lies are so outrageous that they are impossible to prove (e.g. he's a doctor for Kiss) but even her friends at work have never met him and it's all too crazy to be true. Plus she's known to be a bit nutty. She lies about horrible diseases that she has, ones that kill you and can't be cured so you know that she must be lying (if she's still alive 30 years later). I don't know if anyone has ever confronted her about it, as that would be an interesting conversation to witness!
I also hate listening to people with their spectacular and amazing project(s) that they are ALWAYS planning, but that they never, ever seems to get off the ground.
DH has 2 sons and a daughter that do this. Every couple of weeks they each have some harebrained idea that gets reactions from the family. Everyone carrying on and oohing and aaahing over each idea...yet they never do a fucking thing.
It gets really old.
I don't even pretend to be excited for them or DH because it is a waste of my energy. I'll be excited when I actually see some results.
Someone told me about a woman I know who does agility. Apparently a few years ago, she told everyone that she had breast cancer and later admitted she made it all up just so she could have some attention and well wishes. It's hard for me to believe the story. She seems like a nice normal person, but I don't know her that well at all. After reading what other people have said, it could be true.
These stories are amazing. People and their whoppers!

I'm with Paloma - I sometimes wish I told people I have a kid. Then you have a free pass to take time off. At my current job I had to take Ali to the vet in February then in June I had to take Udu. My boss was like, "Your cat sure is sick a lot." Um, I have two cats and it was four months apart, OK? If I had a kid it would be all, "TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU WANT! YOUR KID IS SO IMPORTANT!" Blech.
Cats, that reminds me of the experiment run by the person who runs "The Other Board" where she implied but did not directly state that she had children. It was very interesting to see how she got to leave early while the people who were single or without kids had to work had to say. While I disapproved of her getting paid while dumping the work on others I do admit that it's time one of us get something for nothing.

I've told this story before but why not. I worked a job doing computer rollouts across the state. We were told it was 9 out of 12 weeks travel. Business travel sucks but fine I'll do it. I started noticing a pattern and kept track of it. The people without kids never traveled more than 3 out of 12 weeks and when the did travel it was always to the nice places where there was stuff to do. Those of us without kids were going 11 or 12 weeks out of 12 and it was always the middle of nowhere where the most exciting thing was watching cars go by on the road. I pointed this out the boss who actually agreed but it was overturned because the people with FAMLEEES couldn't be away that long. Get another job then.
The jerk I mentioned in the OP had also written about how wonderful and amazing he believes Carrie Prejean was for being strong and standing up against gay rights/marriage.
He wrote that she is THE greatest role model for young people today...he also wrote that she raised the bar for all young people as well.

GMAFB....I guess he missed the news flash about Prejean's porn debut. She is such an idiot. Did she seriously think that it would never surface? Good grief.

Silly! Being gay is FAR more perverted than making porn movies!!!!
LOL, eslbee!
Godsalmighty do I hate that Carrie Prejean hateful moron. Dumb as toast, plastic as a kid's toy, talent-free and worthless. It makes perfect sense that she's from La Jolla.
My point was that he was ok w/ her bigotry...and I guess totally fine with a young girl (under 17-child) exposing herself in pornography for the entire WORLD to see.... 'cause at least she voices intolerance.

This guy is horrible.

Yes, horrible guys like horrible people like Prejean. Dude is crazy so it makes sense that he thinks a plastic hateful bigot hypocrite porn chick is just fab.
Oh, Anastasia, HOW can you BE so intolerant???? Can't we all just get along?????

LOL!

I know. I am terrible.
I guess she WAS NOT underage. She asked her BF to lie for her and say she was underage when the movie was shot, but she was actually 20.

What a total dip shit.
I have an acquaintance who was fired, because she chose to do the right thing and be honest with her boss. Her cat was dying, and she asked if she could PLEASE leave a little early, so that she could take the cat in to the vet and be with him/her at the end. The boss said "If you leave, you're fired." Well, my acquaintance got fired, but I don't blame her at all for what she did.

Unless you're a breeder, honesty just gets you punished. It sucks. Employers care fuck-all about people's pets. I try not to mention mine at all, except maybe in small-talk with a few work friends. If I have to take time off for a cat, it becomes a "household emergency" or "an errand."

Wow Jen, that totally sucks that they fired her for that. I'll never understand why employers can't understand that employee morale is so important. In my own life I've found that when an employer treats me well I'll bust my ass for them and go the extra mile. When an employer treats me like crap then I just coast along doing the bare minimum. Which employer is getting better quality?
