Yup. They don't get it.
I just don't like the mentality that pets don't count as family.

I don't get it either. An animal like a dog or cat lives for years, it interacts with you, and you grow a bond with it. Why is this somehow less important than a child? At least the animal will never say it hates you.

Haha! Or borrow your car and wreck it, or call you at 2am from jail....I could go on and on...

After reading these horror stories about bosses, I'm so glad to have mine. He's a cat person, and is CF by choice. Sooo glad... I'm hoping he doesn't leave!

RantWoman,
None of my recent bosses are CF, but they all feel that 'pets are family'. Within our work contract we have time allowed for family appointments, for example I went with my mother to her pre-surgery appointment and just filled out the proper form at work and they were happy. I usually take my cat to the vet on Saturdays, but if it was an emergency there would be no problems taking the time off. They expect us to be responsible, which means that the occasional appointment for my cat is fine. I think that we're allowed 5 hours total a year (for family appointments, so that doesn't include our own), which is really nice.
