Whats scary for me is, TIMING! If this had happened 2 summers ago, I could have been killed!
This was the base my niece Cindy was at when I saw her graduate basic training. And TG she & her hubby & new baby transferred out of there just a few short months ago themselves.
They are now based out in AZ.
My heart goes out to all the families of all the victims
What a heartbreak this tragedy is Sad
Crybaby2
My condolences to the families.
Sad
This is so frightening to me. What is worse still is how much violence has happened at this particular fort. This is just more people.
Not only sorry for the families of this shooting, but it brings back those emotions from the other incidents that have happened there. A friend of mine had a little sister stationed there about 10 years ago and she was murdered in her home. (still unsure of the details, he won't talk about it.)

This is going to get ugly since the main person seems to be Muslium.

I've been twitchy all day from this. I'm a Veteran, and the idea of the folks who help us deal with things from the sandbox could just so calmly "go nuts" and do what this gentleman allegedly did ... twitch twitch ...

I have a lot of questions about what happened. Including why, if this gentleman got "poor performance ratings" at Walter Reed, was he transferred to Ft Hood -- home of the First Cav, who tend to be in the thick of things. And why was he promoted to Major in May? If he's performing poorly? Was there some unofficial "muslim affirmative action" program in action?

I am also waiting for the identities of those killed to be released. There is a small chance I may have known some of them, our unit did a lot of support work for First Cav and 10th Mountain.

~twitch~
From what I know about the physician culture, they don't like confronting MDs who are not doing well. So they don't stop them before it's too late, like I have read a book about a doctor who was failing, but would go out and get another job and stay until he couldn't take the heat. He ended up killing several people before he was stopped.
I think in this case the armed services are in need of mental health workers due to the horrific things the soldiers are going through on their deployments, and they didn't want to lose this guy, they wanted to deploy him. This guy had never been deployed to Iraq, but he had heard stories from his patients.
I really think we need to learn from this incident that soldiers are under huge pressures and with multiple deployments this is compounded. I don't care if the guy was Muslim or Christian, the point is we are pushing soldiers to the breaking point. Whether they suffer in silence, commit suicide, abuse substances,go AWOL, or kill others we have to question how we are running these wars now.
CORRECTION.. Sorry I was never at Fort Hood. I got mixed up with the other Fort I was at in S.C

But anyway, ITA with all that has been said about this senceless tragedy
IT could have been prevented had someone had the brains to see what was going on with this dude.
Don't tell me there were no warning signs, I refuse to believe that!
I bet no one had the guts to face off with him cause he was a Doctor.
Well doctors are not saints contrary to popular belief.
They make mistakes too. And this one made a doozy of one.
I just can't imagine what the families of the victims are going through.
Grouphug All because no one took the time or effort to see what was going on in this idiots head prior to him shooting up ½ the fort.
If this is not a wake up call what is?

Your other questions are quite valid, but I have to say the answer to the last one is "no." I have lots of Muslim friends, and I can assure you there is no "muslim affirmative action program in action" going on anywhere, especially since 9/11. I know some great people dealing with a lot of hate and bullshit just for being Muslim in America, no "affirmative action" going for them at all.

You are right, there isn't. I worded the statement badly. When 9/11 happened we had a muslim gent working with us and he happened to be traveling ON 9/11 (coming back from Chicago visiting family). He had quite the adventure, especially as he wasn't a US Citizen (he was here legally on one of those work visas).

I do have to wonder though if his superiors kept him on to say they had a Muslim Psychiatrist. It's not unheard of in the military.

I am not the greatest at wording things. Wink

Its Ok faeriecat your not alone. I have trouble wording things too. Smile
"I do have to wonder though if his superiors kept him on to say they had a Muslim Psychiatrist."

I think that their desperate need for mental-health professionals was much more of a factor than any other.
The whole situation is so tragic! Very scary and very, very sad.
