Let me preface this by saying, at least the management here is trying to keep everyone employeed.
That said... our staff meeting lasted from 9AM-Noon. Why? Because we had to cut out another 2.1 million dollars from our budget and they wanted staff input. So mid meeting they had us separated into about 6 groups. To go through the line items and mark what could be cut or decreased.
Curiously, almost EVERY group had the same core 4 items to remove and at least 4 of the 6 groups had a couple similar side items. Really? The ones that were similar all had at least one Assist VP in them.

First off, I think we were set up. And it wasn't me that thought that.
Secondly, this was a great way for the underlings (of which I am one) to get all crabby to each other.
Thirdly, at least two of the projects were one gal's pet programs in my hall and she is not doing well at all since she already lost her "baby" to the first round of budget issues. And one of the other projects was also from my area and the manager of that is TICKED.

And lastly, my group went last and the group appointed speaker happened to be my AVP and then did a little "tie up" before the CEO started talking. Hurmph.

If you already knew, if you already had decided, THEN just call it at the management level and leave us worker bees the hell alone.

Though I think we also went after some areas no one expected. (One group even went after the Golden Child from our past CEO of our call center.)
Yuk - I'm sure you are right - they had already decided. They wanted to put the spin on it of having "employee input" so you'd feel better. I hope they don't resort to layoffs.
Cats nailed it. They wanted to make people feel like they mattered and if someone had a usable suggestion then that's just a bonus.
Yeah, I think that is the issue.
The problem is that I really hope it wasn't a set up. I really like the new CEO and was hoping for better from him.
My co-worker (who lost one project and two of her other ones are on the new chopping block) believes it was just a err in judgement on CEO.
And perhaps it was, but it really was a big one. Especially since we have been trying to work across disaplines and now everyone is back in their "Mine!" stage. Plus you had people who had no knowledge of certain areas giving advice to people in the department. (Why do we need PR at all? Ummm, do you not listen to our staff updates? It is non-paid advertising!!!)

After all the stuff I have been through with this company and the past 6 years of our last CEO ("off with their heads") I don't want this new management to be petty and manipulative like this. (Mostly because I really like the current CEO and don't want to think that he would play these games.)
