Bovines wish they all could be California cows

FRESNO, Calif. (Oct 13, 2009)

California cows are the first in the United States with the legal right to swat flies as nature intended, now that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill banning the painful practice of tail docking that he once mocked as being a waste of legislators' time.
He also signed other farm bills he ridiculed this summer as he tried to pressure legislators to focus on balancing the state's budget.
Wow, I'm so glad he signed it. I signed one of those letters urging Ahnold to sign the bill. I wonder what's happening to him, he's growing some kind of heart.
I never even knew that they cropped their tails. How absolutely horrific!! Sad

I am glad to hear that something is being done to stop this barbaric practice and I just hope that other states that allow this abuse will STOP IT!

I didn't know that either. What's the reason for that? If the cattle are going to end up as hamburger meat or leather goods, then what's the use?

I did a quick search on Google and it said that it was for health reasons (because the tail can get dirty and help transmit disease), and also so the dairy workers won't get hit with a long tail.

That seems just cruel and unnecessary. There are other ways of ensuring the health of the cows, and if they can't swish their tails to get rid of flies, they could end up with more diseases.

Good for everywhere that has banned it. I hope more places do.
