I am taking a software class through work - it's part of a series of free classes that the college offers for employees who want to beef up their skills. The class met this week. My whine is about the instructor.

The guy spent about 1 hour of the 2.5 hour class talking about his own website, his blog and all the photos he takes. He's telling us that at least 15 other websites are linked to his, because people love his photography and love reading his blog. He was bragging about how his photos are so great that he gets them published in different places and even in a magazine they've been used before, blah, blah, blah. He sold one once for $300, etc.

I'm like, dude, that's great and all but I want to learn about the software, please!

He's been here 10 years - isn't going anywhere. It's a small enough place that complaining only gets me into trouble.

This same guy got so mad at me last fall when I was taking another class from him because I said I was voting for Nader that he threatened to cancel the class. I was trying to explain to him that the popular vote doesn't count AT ALL in a Presidential election in the USA and he was insisting that it does. Um, no, learn the rules in your own country, dude.

ACK!
Do you have to take the classes? This guy sounds like a grade A jerk.
That sucks. I hate when a professor ruins a class I was really looking forward to taking. If possible, what I've done to avoid that situation is take the same class but a different section with a different teacher. Again, I know its not always possible (esp since you said the place was small) but it might work if you have to take the classes.

A huge pet peeve of mine is a mandatory class for your major/job training and there is only one instructor for the class and they suck. I had a couple of these in college.
I had that happen, too. The professor didn't just jabber away about herself and her interests, but she let someone else hijack the class for the entire semester.
Hug for Cats.. OMG ITA with Eddy this guy does sound like a self indulgent jerk.
What has his website got to do with TEACHING you all what you need to learn??
Is there another class at a different time with a different instructor?
Maybe you can switch over telling them you have scheduling problems?

He's the only person who teaches the classes, unfortunately... I have no clue how to use Dreamweaver so without the class I'm so lost... the good thing is there's only 2 more classes.
Good luck toughing it out.

I feel so grateful that we have an Office Automation Team with more than one instructor. They are all awesome anyway, but still.

Now I remember why I did not like working in a small office.

In that case, I would almost be tempted to look at a local community college or other resource to learn the package rather than endure useless blathering.
