Well, that went well! I ended up bringing all three kittens to the work BBQ. They were passed around, played with, coddled and snuggled. One escaped from my manager which was quite amusing

He only took a few steps before he was scooped back up, but it was funny while it lasted!
I biked over with them so I couldn't bring Hillary. He's just too big. Plus I don't think that he would have appreciated it quite the same way. He can be social, but I think he prefers doing so in familiar territory.
So it turns out that my workplace are huge cat and kitten fans. There was one guy who brought his young baby (maybe 3 months old?) and some people were going over to say hello but mostly the ones who worked with him and they weren't interacting much with the baby. People were going crazy with the kittens, passing them around and having a great time. At first they were quite active and interacting well but then they got a bit sleepy so people were tucking them in their sweaters where they soon fell asleep.
Definitely a successful adventure. Given a similar opportunity I will have to try this again! Cats make great 'family'

That's freakin AWESOME! I was about to say "you really can't go wrong with kittens" but I guess you can if someone has a deathly allergy. Luckily no one did! Sounds like a HOOT!
Someone said something similar... you really can't go wrong with kittens.
I do always try to keep allergies in mind, but it was an outdoors open area (ultimately it was surrounded by a fence) and big enough that it was easy to avoid being close to them. Plus kittens don't tend to elicit as bad a reaction in people, although that's never a guarantee I guess. Still, the exposure wouldn't have been any worse than an average day of seeing dogs on the street or shaking hands with pet owners, and if you can't handle that then you'd be taking special precautions.
Too cute. How could anyone NOT love kittens or puppies?
That is so awesome!
Confession: I voted to 'keep them at home', only because I was thinking of the worst case scenario and figured someone would flat-out ruin it for you.
Kittens are so much fun!
Beachbum,
No worries and no need for a confession! Admittedly most cats and kittens won't like outings but these guys are unusually young and therefore fearless. Plus my coworkers are scientists which makes them more introverted and less happy around children (many of them are CF, or at least definitely PNBs). One guy even told me that it was a great idea to bring them because it made people more social than we would have been normally, which isn't exactly a benefit that I had planned for but it's nice if it worked out that way.
Sounds like my one co-worker. She had to leave work early a week and a half ago to go pick up her foster kittens. Four itty bitties. She ended up bringing them back into the office because it would be too much trouble to go all the way to her house and then try to get back after getting them settled.
Wouldn't have been so bad since we didn't have a ton of people in the office. However as she was coming upstairs (back door) she ran into our CEO. That was the major reason for not coming in through the front door- to avoid most people. CEO was funny and actually asked to play with one of them. So there was a group of us snuggling the little ones. CEO left but came back about an hour later with his daughters. The girls were here so the elder daughter could pick up the SUV that one of my co-workers was selling. (So we are talking 16 and 14 year olds, not little kids)
CEO drug them back to the co-worker's office to check out the kittens. One of the girls took a look in the travel crate and said in a very scolding voice "Daddy, What Have You DONE?!?"
After I peeked my head in, the elder daughter explained that at his job before coming to us, he had brought home a kitten that someone was trying to find a home for. The girl thought he had gone crazy and was bringing home 4 kittens for their 6 year old cat.
They stayed and played with the itty bitties for a while before the lure of the "New-To-Me" car called the elder to insist that Dad "please put the kitten down."
Glad it worked out so well!

"The girl thought he had gone crazy and was bringing home 4 kittens for their 6 year old cat. "
That is so funny! I love your CEO for that

And your coworker sounds like a good person too!
The vet told me that my 6 year old cat has to lose weight and I think that 4 kittens are better than any laser pointer, but I don't know if my cat agrees. Who are we kidding... my friend was visiting last night and started off by calling him 'patient' but after a while she observed "He really does like to play with them, doesn't he?" My cat swishes his tail to taunt them and then smacks them upside the head (not hard as they keep playing with his tail). At first you don't see their 'dance' for what it is, a very mutual play-time.
I was just looking through my latest photos and found this one from last week. This is exactly what I'm talking about... Hillary lays on the highest part and swishes his tail over the side. The kittens run up and play with it, and he keeps turning on them. Essentially they all go round in circles, the kittens chasing the tail and he chases them!
Who are we kidding, I'll put up the whole series... each one is taken a few minutes apart.
