Okay, I get that it is normal to have a spare officer in the back in case someone tries to bolt. However, most dogs (and I do mean it generally not just pitties) are going to be territorial about their yard. Which if -and that is a big IF- the dog was aggressive then that is perfectly justifiable. Sorry, my yard, my dog's domain. I didn't introduce you to my dog, she will be curious about you at the bare minimum.
And how close was the dog to the cop? Seriously?
I don't care "how bad the officer feels", he shot a member of my family.

Added bonus points of the person that they wanted hasn't lived there for "quite some time". Good
OMG I hope they sue the shit out of those cops.
Deadly use of force was totally unnecessary against an adorable puppy like Poor Capone may he R.I.P
This story is soooooo sad. And it makes me madder then hell too.
And the cop was not even touched!
The dog never bit him! So why shoot him??
GRRRRR That cop went over the line imho and I hope that lady has a good attorney, cause he will need it.
His life was not in danger the dog Never bit him. So there was no reason to shoot him dead.
He could have aimed for a leg.
aren't cops suppose to be marksmen!
Cause I personally was involved in an situation just like this one
About 7 or 8 years ago our Neighbors dog Buddha was shot by an officer looking for a suspect.
I heard all the screaming as it was right across the street from me.
And the Cop was bitten and bleeding
And he felt bad that he had to shoot the dog. But in this case it WAS self defense!
Cause Buddha was doing his job & defending his home.
Now I happened to have taken a
CPR course for Dogs that summer! And after I understood what all the commotion was about. I ran and grabbed my
First aid kit that I had from my class. So I ran back to where Buddha was laying and crying and bleeding and I bandaged him up and saved his life.
(Oh ya the cop lived, to tell his side of it to his pals too. And I am sure he has a bad leg where he was bit as well.)

Anyway,to this day my neighbors still find me endearing to them for saving Buddha. And of course the poor dog always had a bad Limp.
He outlived my Misty by several years. But,
Sadly I found out just last week that Buddha crossed over to rainbow bridge.
Bad leg and all.
He just did not have the strength to walk outside to do his business anymore, so they had put him down last month. He was 13 yr's old and a mixed breed.
I miss his barks. He was an excellent watch dog for the whole neighborhood!
R.I.P Buddha
Rip
Oh ya btw Pit Bulls get a bad rap cause of the way they was raised from the get go.
There are no bad dogs, only bad owners Smile
Buddha's owners now own a Cute little Pit Bull Puppy. And I know it will be loved and adored. I forgot her name.. But she was a cutie pie for sure. If I get a chance I will try and get a pix and a name real soon.
