I have the urge to do an exchange. Does anyone have any suggestions about what we can exchange?
Too early for Christmas cards or Secret Santa and we just did postcards. I think some folks just did tea...
What about the magnet exchange? We did that a few years back. Anyone up for it or have another idea for an exchange?
How about something scented? Incense, candle, potpourri? The retail store has some really kewl new incense that is small and easy to ship. It is almost time - for many of us - to close up the house and having something nice-smelling inside would make it more bearable.
After the tea exchange debacle, I won't do another one.
What about an exchange of something that is area specific. Like something that you can only find in your town or your area that the people you are sending it to, wouldn't be able to get otherwise.
I've never done a board exchange before, but it sounds like fun! I like jmk3482's idea. I'm up for anything though!

Puzzle, puzzle. I'm up for it, but I must live in a wasteland, seems like there's nothing area-specific to here. Other than maybe fresh-picked sweet-corn or apples... those won't travel so well.
Scented chocolate from your area? Just kidding.

Or what about just something weird? Something that makes you go, what the hell is that?
Or weird foreign candy from a local indian store or a World Market?
How about a candle exchange?

When I thought of chocolate, I was actually thinking of World Market. They carry Aerobars from the UK and I freakin' LOVE those damn chockies. Maybe other peeps would like them, too? Yorkie bars are yummy, as well. I took a gourmet chocolate tour in San Francisco in July, if I lived up there I'd know exactly where I'd go to get stuff for an exchange if there was one. But I don't live there

Would people be OK with a combined exchange - buyer's choice? Candles, chocolate, a unique local item? Or should we restrict it to one thing?
In past exchanges, like the postcard exchange, we sent things to everyone. It can be very expensive to send everyone a jar of local peach preserves! Or do we do a name-draw?
A few years ago we did a candy exchange where everybody sent candy from their hometown/state/province/region. It was fun to get different candies from all over the place. I don't recall having to send out too many boxes - maybe 5 or 6? It wasn't a terribly expensive exchange, candy is cheap and light enough to not cost an arm and a leg to mail. I'd love to do another candy exchange - especially if people with access to Coffee Crisp and maple sugar candy sign up.
Anastasia - Mmm AEROBARS I get them you mean like Aerobubbles? OMG I'm an addict!
I like the area-specific. I'm in rural UK so that should be fun for me to participate in I can find something that everyone in the US can definitely not find. Now aren't some parts of the US still really hot and wouldn't chocolate melt? Or will we wait till it cools down a bit like another month.
I could try to participate I never have before so I'd have to get familiar with rules.

Yes, it is still pretty hot down here. It's still hitting 100 degrees on a daily basis. I think the last time we did the candy exchange, we waited until October for that very reason. Although around here, I think the only time of year you could reasonably expect chocolate NOT to melt in your mail box is in January. We have two seasons - summer and not summer, and not summer lasts about 6 weeks.

So you probably don't want to hear that up here we have night temperatures of 44F, and day-time is about 70F. I'm loving this cooler air!
I'm debating sending out maple sugar candies, but it will depend upon the number of participants... (plus I'd likely send them out in mid-October, as I'll be visiting NC at that time).
Hey we had a heat wave for a couple weeks this summer, it got to 84 one day!!!
Took me awhile to remember what that yellow thing in the sky was ha ha.
I'm up for the local candy idea but I agree that cooler weather would be better for it.

Aero Bubbles are the small round version, I can't get them here even in places that import Aero. The only ones I can get here are regular Aero bars in milk chocolate or mint chocolate. I stay away from mint, I don't like mint flavored anything. So I just get the plain milk chocolate Aero Bars here when I can find them and when they aren't old and melted and ruined.
I've just learned that they make a Crispy Aero bar, I'd LOVE to try one of those!
Yes, it's hot here in San Diego now, around 100 F, no AC, rather miserable.
So should we do just send to one person or send to several? Or wait and see how many signer-upers we get?
