Full Version: Breast Feeding Reduces Cancer Risk (it's not the story, it's the snark.)

Was not sure where to put this.

I have no problem with the news item in question. The problem I have is with this unnecessarily bitchy post on Feministing about breast feeding and reduced cancer risk.

Yeah I love the entitlement tone. I don't have a problem with breastfeeding because it really is the way nature intended things, but I do have a problem with the women who insist on making it a spectacle instead of just quietly doing their thing.
Yeah. It was just weird.

I actually love that blog. This just kind of threw me. The bitchiness seemed kind of "just thrown in there for good measure."
Having regular BMs reduces the risk of colon cancer. That doesn't mean it's okay to just take a number 2 any place you feel like it.
Is there some kind of study that says women who breastfeed in public have a lower incidence of breast cancer than women who breastfeed in private (or in public but covered)? If so, then her snarky comment was justified. If not, then WTF?

How about having a study to see which boob is safer-left side or right side.
Not the topic at hand, but from the comments:

I hate how many feminists seem to look down on women who have/want children, as though becoming a mother is somehow demeaning or "giving in" to the patriarchy.

What??? Where are these feminists?? I'd like to meet them! All the "feminists" nowadays look down on us CFers as being "misogynists" because we don't want kids. Hell, you can't even join the feminist community on LJ if they can glean from your profile or anywhere else that you're childfree. The moderators won't allow it. They consider it "troubling."

Wow, Nadleeh. Seriously? I'm so glad I left that community. (I was run out on a rail after posting an article that suggested that--*gasp*--women of different races should work together!)

Idjits.
