Full Version: No Kidding! A social group for childfree and childless adults

The list of chapters is here:
http://www.nokidding.net
Scroll a little ways down and click on the big gray button that says "Chapters".

Even if you don't see a chapter listed in your area, that doesn't mean there is no social group there. Several chapters de-affiliated in 2007, such as Austin, TX and Albuquerque, NM. So do a google search or ask on this board.
Childfree Meetup groups:

To find a meetup group in your area:
Go to http://www.meetup.com
Register.
Type in "childfree" into the search engine.
That should pull up the childfree meetup groups in your area.
If there isn't one, it will give you the option to start one. It does cost money to start one though.

Ok so for the fun of it I clicked on this link.
I typed in Child Free and my zip code & I got everything
BUT that subject!
So I guess we ( DH & I) stand alone in Cleveland Sad
And NO, I am not interested in funding the start up costs to make one.
I don't have that kind of money.
Well, unfortunately when something is all-volunteer, there will not always be people to run it. I guess no one in Cleveland wanted to take the time to start a chapter there. Obviously you can understand that, since you just said that you would not do it either.

Personally, I like socializing in groups, and I like planning events and organizing. So I enjoy being a chapter leader.

I am not that desperate. I doubt I ever will be, lol Smile

Well, I ran the NYC chapter and now I run the Houston chapter, and I NEVER had to pay start-up costs because the chapter was already there.

But if someone is generous and motivated enough to pay the $60 materials fee to start a chapter, I say more power to them. To call them "desperate" is rude.

ETA: To some people, $60 is not very much money.

Not trying to butt in, but truckerswife quoted the Meetup topic, not the No Kidding! one. Meetup costs are $144 US a year if you pay 6 months at a time.

Oh, OK! I thought she was talking about the No Kidding! fee for chapter materials that Jerry charges.

I agree the meetup prices are high, but I had to do it because we had a disguntled ex-member start a childfree meetup group and she scheduled her events on the same nights as our events to sabotage our group. Luckily she gave up after a month and I was able to buy out the group.

Currently I have 3 meetup groups (it's the same price whether you have 1, 2 or 3 groups so you might as well have 3) and split it with my assistant organizer. I have also had members throw some money towards the expenses. If it get to the point where I have financial hardship, I will "pass the hat" at meetings.
I would love to start one but I'm not in the US. I also wouldn't want to alone, I don't know I don't have the confidence. I also would have no idea if there would be a demand for it. Organizing trips/events sound like SO much fun though.

You don't have to be in the U.S. to start a No Kidding! chapter. It's an international organization that was started in Canada. There is a chapter in London, I believe. Maybe you could talk to them and see if they have some people on their email list who live in your area.

The great thing about the edit feature here is I can edit my own big mouth.
So sorry CFS & everyone else here.
I did not mean to imply that anyone else is desperate.
Sometimes my fingers are faster then my brain, lol
Please forgive meBear
bummer. the only No Kidding club is in the northeast part of the state. (I use to live in the city for a while.)

When I used the Meet-up I did find a Childfree group, but it looked like the group was very small. Added bonus one of the six had something about looking forward to meeting people "who haven't had children yet" WTH? CHILDFREE not childless. Gak. Nevermind.
