Do you follow the "repeat" instructions? Eddy's post in the showering thread reminded me of the directive on most shampoo bottles to use more of their product. Smile
Nope. It takes way too long to wash/condition/detangle my hair already. Why add an extra step?
Somewhere I read that the companies just put that there so you use up twice as much product.

Years ago, people washed there hair once or twice a week.

Now that most people do their hair more often, a second washing is unnecessary, unless you have a serious cleaning to do. ( ie one week camping trip, caught in dust storm, high level of exercise, etc)
I wash my hair twice generally because it's extra oily and if I don't it looks bad. People with dry hair can get away with a once a week wash like my grandmother but if it's oily, you better wash more than that.

Once. Then I slather on copious amounts of conditioner. And that's just the in-shower hair routine!
I only shampoo about once a week or every several days, my hair is thick and curly and frizzy, so I can't really shampoo every day. Sometimes it needs shampooing twice depending on how long it has been since the last time.
Usually I don't repeat, unless I've been working in the yard. I live in Alabama & working in excessive heat & humidity can cause me to sweat horribly.
The only time I repeat is if I've been out of touch with a shower for several days - usually on a camping trip. But those days are increasingly rare, now that we go up to the cabin instead of camping out.
It's also a waste of water to repeat. Once is enough for me. My hair is extremely short to begin with, so my shower routine is very short as well. I don't do anything else BUT wash it.
I never repeat, and I just wash every other day, esp if I am at home and not going out why bother.
Washing every day, although frequently unavoidable, isn't really good for hair. I try to give my hair at least one day off a week, but not if I'm going out at all.
I completely agree with Cassia. It's a racket to make you use and purchase more product.

I worked in a laundromat, and it's the same thing with laundry soap. Half or even a third of what they recommend is all you need. Try it sometimes. If you are at the laundromat, use half the soap in one machine and the regular amount in the other and see if you notice a difference. There is no difference.

I've always said "Do your hands come cleaner if you use ten squirts of soap than if you use one?" The only time would be is if you had hallowe'en paint in your hair or something like that and the first wash gets out the crap and the second wash would just really catch anything you missed the first time.
I agree Eslbee I've always heard unless your hair is really oily or something it's best to give it a rest. That's why I do every other day, although by later in the 2nd day it's rather... ugh. But, since I have a couple days at least I stay home all day I work around that. I also at times have been known to just wear a hat if it's a bit oily, I get lots of compliments on the hat so I'll do that if I am not able to squeeze in a wash before I go out.

Ok unlike a lot of ppl I wash my hair at night, cause blow drying really damages it. It takes FOREVER to blow-dry so I just let it dry naturally overnight.
Cats Thanks, This is so cool that someone made a poll on this question.
I voted, No, only once. Cause, I have very short hair. And once is all I need to get it clean.
LOL
ITA with most of you on the reasons why they say repeat.
But, ask any hair stylist and they will give you a different answer, lol
I also do every other day unless I've done something on the "off day" that makes it particularly dirty. I wash twice only when I am truly filthy.

Me too.
I used to wash my hair every couple days, and sometimes once a day in the summer (it's hot and horribly humid where I live). If I didn't then my hair got too oily. Then, I went away to somewhere really hot but dry. Now that I have returned home I find that I wash my hair every 3 or 4 days. After 4 days my head feels slightly itchy but not overly bad. The lesson I take away from this is that we are told to wash our hair more often than necessary (for most of us).

I also found that I washed my hair more often when it was short, because it seemed to get dirtier faster.

And if you have curly hair, you should not wash at all! -- not, at least, with most commercial shampoos. You need an extremely gentle shampoo, and even then, you should not shampoo daily -- once or twice a week is sufficient. Good rinsing is sufficient with curly hair. And no scrunching your hair on the top of your head, if you are a curly! -- you'll damage the delicate strands. Keep it down straight, and move your fingers in a piano-playing motion through the strands to rinse or shampoo.
I voted depends. Generally, I wash my hair every other day. And when I shampoo it is usually shampoo, lather, rinse, conditioner, set for 2 minutes, rinse, and a little extra conditioner on the ends (no rinse).

I will do the shampoo, lather, repeat if I have been out camping all weekend. Or if I have had tons of product (hairspray/gel/whatnot) in my hair.

Yeah, I always assume that the "repeat" is just to use more product. I have done what Jo is talking about with laundry soap and dish soap for year. I think I use about half of what it calls for. Still works fine.
