So, where should we have this year's event? Obviously I'm pushing for Austin, but other places like Denver have been suggested. I was going to put up a poll, but I thought I'd start a thread for suggestions first.
So, suggestions?
Since you've already put effort into planning this, I'd say go ahead and host it. (Not like I have any kind of authority to appoint you or the town, but it's MHO.)
I don't see anyone else stepping up to plan it in their town or suggest dates, so go for it.
Of course I'd love Austin
I probably couldn't make anything other than Austin or San Antonio, so if the majority wants to go elsewhere that's fine with me. It will depend on my job and life status at that point anyway.
Sept. is ACL fest in Austin, which can be fun but I imagine the hotels are booked early. I know they were when we went and that was only the 2nd year, it's gotten much bigger since then.
In any case, October is the best month in Texas (IMHO) and we could see the bats

Oh yeah, ACL Fest has gotten huge. I don't recommend coming to Austin during that weekend unless you're coming specifically for the festival. Besides, it's still really hot in September.
I can't believe I forgot to put the bats on my top 10 list in the other thread! You're right, there will still be bats in October. They migrate in the fall, but there should be some still there. There are a few there now. I went kayaking in Town Lake last weekend and I could hear them (and smell them) when I went under the bridge. For those of you who aren't aware, Austin is home to the
largest urban bat colony in North America. From late spring to late fall, millions of Mexican Freetail bats live under the Congress Avenue bridge. They emerge at sunset and it is a sight to behold. It's this huge, long cloud of squeaking bats, pouring out from under the bridge non-stop for like half an hour. Personally, I think the best view is from the water. Maybe we could do a bat flight river cruise.
I would love to do one of the river cruises, I've never done it.
Last time I was there we walked around the park and yeah- that smell is awful, but oh well. It was so cool to see all the bats fly up and around.
When I was young there were a lot of bats in my parents' neighborhood. They would fly around above us at dusk while we played, I miss that.
Go bats!
I've had a great time at Esther's the few times I've been too-- we laughed so hard our faces hurt, but theres always something to do. The Bullock (?) museum was ok if you're into history museums too.
