I can't remember if this was done before or not, but let's list things that our pets have chewed/eaten/torn up/broken or otherwise destroyed.
Dog toys, cat toys and bones do not count.
I'll go first.
Lilly (dog):
plastic fork
2 mini drink umbrellas
1 autographed first edition hardcover book by Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones (selling for $150-$175 on ebay)
4 other coffeetable books, including: Roadside America, The Story of Little Big Horn, Frank Lloyd Wright's Wendover sketches, and my stepdaughter's history book (we had to reimburse the school for $65)
plastic hair clip
Cable TV/DVR remote control
orthopedic foot brace
several pairs of shoes
several pairs of socks
used maxi-pads
underwear
several cardboard boxes
several coasters
cardboard cover of MIL's "Ratatouille" DVD
roll of masking tape
cardboard cat scratching post
Villain (dog):
3 hairbrush handles
several pairs of shoes, including a brand-new pair of Doc Martens
several tennis balls, baseballs, softballs and golf balls
small cloth-covered jewelry box with mirror and jewelry inside
box of tampons (new)
several doors
2 wooden gates (1 outdoor gate & 1 baby gate)
Joint effort between Villain and Lilly:
Entire bag of stuffed animals belonging to my stepdaughter that she'd had since childhood
Cats coming soon.
Holy crap esp on the autographed first edition hardcover book by Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones (selling for $150-$175 on ebay)
I hope I can remember everything. Winnie's done a remote, unused tampons, a couple clothing items, part of a curio cabinet. Oh I foolishly left $100 in 20's on my dresser, usually she was fine with it but she got 2 of them. One was replaceable, one was not.
Lily - shoes. Several new pairs and a pair of slippers. Also some Ibuprofen.
Recently, one of them got my mouth guard I wear at night. That killed me. Wore that thing 3 years straight. Waiting on my new one. I hate being without it but I can finally sleep again. It was knocked off my table and I'm not sure which dog got it.
Now it's usually just napkins/paper towels if one is left on the coffee table. If I been really sick or we've had bad weather and they go a couple days without a walk is when Lily does this. Otherwise they hardly ever get into anything. Lily got some chocolate DH left out but it wasn't enough and she puked it all up right away so she was fine.
I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now.
Sure am glad I have cats not dogs!! Neither cat has destroyed anything, other than a few thousand dollars in vet care...

Yeah... I have had the occasional small thing broken by a cat or kitten, my old and tattered pull-out couch looks more tattered from claws (when my friends house-sat my place, otherwise I trim my cats' claws), and my curtains and shower-curtain have some teeny holes from claws (foster kittens) but that's it. Nothing memorable.
My cats are good enough to not even scratch the nice rugs! They go after their scratching posts, and the occasional tug at my solid entry-way square (they can't hurt it, and it was free).
Sadie ate a couple ballcaps and this thing that his grandmother made (door draft thing). As a puppy she also ripped off two metal bars from her large crate.
Darcy and/or Rosie. Since they are cats we don't know which one did it.
Got up on the entertainment center and knocked down one of my wedding wine glasses.
Broke another vase.
Had us call a plumber because the basement drain was overflowing. Plumber "snaked it" and found three hard plastic cat balls. Nice.
And Darcy has a thing about throwing up on things like clothes, rugs and tableclothes. SIGH.
Murphy chewed a hole in the arm of the sofa when he was a puppy...I had fallen asllep after an early morning potty break with him in my arms and he decided to have some fun. I woke up and caught him in the act so he was suitably impressed.
Other than that it was just his own stuff he ripped up, for a Golden Retreiver he was really pretty good. I volunteer at an assistance dog kennel and those guys are pirahnas! They eat everything...even the play structure are full of holes!
I'm feeling like I got off lucky
Jen and Murphy
Well, if birds count my cockatiels have destroyed at least 3 magazines. They love shredding paper. Fortunately, I've been able to keep them away from my books.
Five cats - nothing destroyed or broken. A few flowers have been eaten but other than that, nothing.
4 cats, but the only one that wrecks anything is Carlos.
He LOVES paper, he'll shred and shred it to bits.
He can't open cupboards but 2 of the other cats can. Oddly one day I came home to find that he has somehow gotten into the cupboard under the bathroom sink. He tore open my new pack of 24 rolls of TP and had shread about 5 rolls to confetti.
It was irritating, but makes me laugh to think of one of the other cats holding the cupboard open for him.
A picture I drew in a college art class was hanging(unframed) in the spare room. Somehow it fell off the wall and Carlos chewed most of it. I cried when I saw pieces of my hard work lying on the floor.
I'm still kinda mad about that one actually.
Years ago my dog stole our thanksgiving turkey off the counter, ran outside, and attempted to bury it in the yard! Ironically no one in my family even likes turkey, so we all just laughed and ate ham.
Funny thread! I love it.
My male cat destroyed my brand new box spring in within a few weeks. The corners were used as scratching posts. He shredded the corners to bits before I noticed. (Oh, and yes, he does have his own scratching post....
three, to be exact!). Same cat knocked over a beautiful vase with bamboo in it.
My birds chewed off the tops of about 10-15 books that I had next to their cage. When I walked into the room, it looked as though they had thrown one hell of a party and celebrated with loads of confetti! (One nibbled book happened to be a library book, of course).
The very corner of the carpet by the main bathroom was torn/shredded. Every time I went to take a tinkle, one of the cats would hear me and scratch and pull at the carpet try to get in to visit me. So, I had the carpet replaced and taped the corner down. It looks really tacky and they
still try to tear it up. I leave the door open now if nobody else is home.
My female cat tore through the plastic package of TP and shredded the tops of about 6 rolls.
She also like to take clothing out of drawers. For example, I left my sock drawer open the other night and when I got up in the morning there must have been 20-30 pairs of socks on the floor. She hooks them with her little claw and drops them over the side of the dresser.
She will also knock small items off of the counters (pens, pill bottles, combs, etc...). That was actually ok with me because now DH puts his pill bottles away before bed

Just popping in to say this is my new favorite thread-HILARIOUS!
Well, just great...here is another story and it happened this afternoon as a matter of fact.
Just got home from Home Depot with a couple of beautiful new plants.
I set them out on the balcony and started on some chores inside. Then I look outside and BOTH cats are chewing away on my new plant!
CRAAAAAP!!!!!
So, the plant is going back to Home Depot this weekend.

That is hilarious!! I love the visual it brings to mind!
Oh, I forgot about the under cupboard issue. I had a cat once who could open cupboards. She would often open the bathroom cupboard and then open the box of tampons and then pull out a tampon from the sleeve and wander around with it like a mouse. Normally dropping them at the feet of any male that walked into our house. Yeah, she was fun during parties and dates.

LOL! Now THAT is funny!!!!

Makes me think of "A Christmas Story" when the neighbor's dogs run off with the family's turkey.
Adding to my Lilly chew list:
Mark's leather sandals.
Stepdaughter's cellphone charger.
Things cats have destroyed:
Precious (my tuxedo cat that I had in NYC from 1997 to 2004):
- my cat-hater roommate's mug (pushed it off the table)
- a porcelain box belonging to my ex-boyfriend's dead mother that had great sentimental value (pushed off the shelf the day after his stepmom gave it to him).
These are the only things she ever broke. It's almost like she knew.
She used to knock over houseplants and vases of flowers though.
Monster (my cat that I had in NYC from 1994-1995 (He's still alive and living with my ex-BF's parents)):
- Tore up my Cult "Electric" album cover wall poster.
Blondie: (our cat whom we had in TX from June 2006 to October 2008 - disappeared during our hurricane evacuation)
- Shat all over the foam pad of my Select Comfort bed. It had to be thrown out, and the replacement pad cost $140.
- Ripped up 2 yoga mats with his claws.
Ruined several items of clothing with his claws.

You're going to return a chewed-up plant? Why would they take it back if it's not in the same condition it was when they sold it to you?
My cats have destroyed:
house plants - both real and artifical
shoes - one of them likes to scratch the toes
shoe inserts - she must like the sponginess of them
bathroom rugs - apparently the litter box wasn't good enough
towels and washcloths - ditto for the rugs
rolls of paper towels or toilet paper - often still in the plastic
loaves of bread - also still in the plastic wrapper
end table - water damage from a knocked over glass, and then subsequent chips out of the finish from back claws
various papers and documents that have been left accessible have gotten chewed around the corners (same goes for cardboard box flaps)
That's all I can think of at the moment. Oh! And also large sections of carpet and padding have been destroyed thanks to litter box issues too.
