Signs point to murder-suicide in McNair case

Evidence suggests that former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was killed in a murder-suicide with Sahel Kazemi, a 20-year old woman he had been dating for several months, media outlets are reporting.

McNair was found shot to death in a Nashville condominium he was renting. He suffered several gunshot wounds, including one to the head. Kazemi was found on the floor near him with a single gunshot wound to her head. The Nashville Tennessean reports a pistol was found near her body.

Additionally, Nashville police are not actively looking for suspects. Police have not yet called the deaths the result of a murder-suicide. Autopsies are scheduled for today, after which an official cause of death is likely to be named.

"We expect to make additional conclusions after the autopsy process," police spokesperson Don Aaron told the Tennessean.

On Thursday, Nashville police had arrested Kazemi on a DUI charge while driving a 2007 Escalade registered to her and McNair. McNair was in the front seat, but didn't break the law and was allowed to leave by taxi.

Yes, he was married and had kids. People in his family are saying they don't even know this woman, but some friends seem to know who she is because she waited tables at a restaurant they frequented. (DH is a sports nut, so our TV has been non-stop ESPN since this happened.) It's hard to say at this point if it was an affair or maybe a misinterpretation of affection. This morning we also heard the police had to look a bit to find the gun, so it's possible it was not a murder-suicide.

I heard it on the news 2 nights ago. Because he used to play for the Houston Oilers, it is big news down here. DH and I immediately thought "murder-suicide" when we heard the news. It's pretty obvious from the circumstances.

Wow, did I blow this one! I guess watching so much ESPN led me to put a more positive spin on what the facts were at the time.
