Another post about things being marketed as "family friendly" got me thinking about my upcoming trip to Vegas. I'm sure some remember when Vegas went thru its "family friendly" phase, which seems to have died out, from what I can see.
Just wanted to know if anyone has recently been there (or lives there) and are there any places a CF couple should avoid? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!!

We haven't been in awhile, but I will advise to stay away from Circus Circus!! It is all about the kids and probably still is. The buffet had totally gross pink colored walls which made me feel like I was at a kiddie birthday party or something. Never again will I go there.
If you want to save money, here's a few tips.
For a hotel, stay on Fremont Street. There are hotels that are 30 bucks a night if you do your research and don't go on the weekend. They won't be luxury resorts but honestly, are you staying in your room in Vegas when you can see the sites?
At McCarran Airport, don't bother with a taxi to get to your hotel. There is a public bus that can take you to Fremont St. or the Strip if you prefer. I think it's the 301 for local service or the 302 for faster express service. Instead of twenty bucks for a cab it's two bucks.
If you go to Fremont, hit the Rite Aid (which has glittery lights!) and buy a bottle of water. Fill the water in your hotel room before leaving. Seriously, there are no water fountains anywhere.
For a laugh, go outside the Bellagio and watch the fashion victims who spent hundreds of dollars only to look like retards in their designer outfits.
The all you can eat buffets are so-so. They aren't bad but they aren't good either. Try to go at off hours since many are 24-7.
Avoid the one armed bandits (slot machines). Even a penny slot machine can easily eat up hundreds of dollars in an hour.
For fun, go to the upscale casinos and with a straight face ask where the penny slots are. It's fun to see the looks on their faces.
Thanks for the great ideas!
The only famblee related incidents were screaming kids off in the distance as their parents dragged them through the casino at midnight. Will parents ever figure out that kids need to sleep and when they are up too late they cry and get cranky?
Was In Las Vegas Jan 09
It was still loaded with kids.. But not as many when we went in 06
My advice Stay away from these 3 big casinos
1. Circus Circus
2. Excalabur
3. Treasure Island
Those three are a treasure trove of rugrats! LOL
And Yes ITA Freemont Street is the best area to stay in
The Golden Nugget is a very nice place to stay at and visit.
Plus it is one of the few older Casionos with loads of History.
Have Fun and WIN BIG!!!!!!!!
&

too
I'm going to Vegas for 3 nights with a CF friend in the middle of September, arriving on a Tuesday and leaving Friday.
We are leaning toward staying at the Stratosphere Hotel. They have 2 pools, one adult-only "topless-optional"...hmmm...
Any new tips for LV appreciated!
I went to Vegas almost exactly 3 years ago and all I distinctly remember was that the $0.99 tequila slushies were diagonal to the Bellagio fountains, the Bellagio fountains are endlessly entertaining to scientists (i was there with work and the three of us spent hours watching the fountains), and to quite another colleague "The pirate show attempts to be athletic, pyrotechnic, and scantily-clad but fails badly on all three".
I wouldn't go back unless I had a really good reason to go, and even then I'd probably avoid Vegas and go hiking in the outskirts. It's definitely not my thing!
Oh, and I also thought it odd to see so many old men with young women, until I looked more closely and realised that the women had usually had incredible amounts of plastic surgery and looked really odd. Ick!
Go to the Bellagio to see the Botanical Gardens display! If you like gardens and flowers, you will enjoy it. I would advise to go later in the evening when the kids are in bed, it can be a very quiet and peaceful time.
Plus, the cafe next to it has one of the best waffles in the world, lol!
I love the Mirage. Their atrium and aquariums are so cool. Plus, I think the volcano is kinda fun to watch.
The sinking pirate ship is ok, but is always overrun with kids.
I should do more hiking and excursions outside of the city, but when I go to LV, I go with my Aunt and my Mom and they don't venture off the strip at all.
Oh ya, the lights on Fremont are kind of neat, too.
I always take a shuttle, instead of a cab. It is cheap ($12-round trip?) and takes you right to the hotel/airport.

Noelle,If your going to be in Vegas for a while my suggestion is to rent a car. In the long run it is cheaper then taking cabs everywhere even with Valet parking, its cheaper.
As for place to avoid. Please stay away from Circus Circus &
Treasure Island they are loaded with kiddies.
If your looking for a wonderful place to enjoy a feast of meat and other rare goodies,
( that is if your not a vegan?). Then may I suggest you treat yourselves to dine at
"Texas de Brazil"
Town Square Shopping Center
6533 S Las Vegas Blvd
Las Vegas, NV 89119
Neighborhood: Southeast
(702) 614-0080 ( trust me you won't regret it)
That is if you like to eat!
As for attractions in Vegas I suggest you check out the shows that say adults only.
There are a few, but its up to you
Zumanity, The Sensual Side of Cirque du Soleil, was a wonderful show. And NO one under 21 was allowed to enter. )
I'm hoping since it's September in the middle of the week, that would mean fewer kids!
My friend says we could drive to Hoover Dam in the evening(she's renting a car).
I do not like gambling so that is not the reason I am going. We want to enjoy a pool with cocktails, me and my friend agree.
Other people tell me there are good restaurants. Anyone have more recommendations?
We stayed at the Double-Tree at the airport three years ago. No kids. It's a business hotel. Also no casinos and no smoking. We were just using it as a base to see the surrounding area. We only went downtown two nights for plays. We both hate the strip.
Noelle, sadly all the other places I know of, that are great to eat at are in Casino's
One place for sure that should not be missed, if you like good fish that is, is called "Fultons Fish Market" located in the shopping area of the New York New York Casino. You would not neccessarly have to gamble to go there. There are great places to shop & eat as well.
But if you like Long John Silvers fish at all. This place is 100 times better then that. And bring your appetite cause their portions are generous. It was so good, that after having their fish, I really cannot enjoy any other fish here in my own hometown.
Plus the cole slaw and FF were outstanding too.
Just a suggestion, that is IF you like fish, I know not many people do. I don't even like most kinds of fish myself. But I LOVED
"Fultons"

I thought Hoover Dam was over-rated, but that could be because I've seen a bigger hydro-electric dam here in Quebec. We were planning on doing the guided tour, but decided against it when we saw it.
I LOVED the Cirque du Soleil's Love show (it's the one with the Beatles song). There were kids, but not too many (we went in April).
We were disapointed in every buffet we ate at. I'd say go to "regular" restaurants. There are really good restaurants in Vegas.
I was surprised at the number of kids there.
Litchie, breeders drag their brats everywhere these days, even taking them out of school to do it. Like I said in another thread, some moron even brought one of the little brats to Antarctica. If she'd left her there, I would have understood, but no, she dragged her all the way back.
Last time I was in LV I saw Terry Fator the ventriloquist. He is the man that won America's Got Talent.
I loved the show. It was really cute and really funny. There were some kids there, but I would say that there were mostly adults. There is a ton of adult humor in the show, so it really is not geared towards kids.
It is a really relaxed show, meaning you can take all the pics or videos that you want. There are also three huge screens on the stage, so any seat is great.
I liked the show better than "O" (I was really disappointed in "O" to be honest with you....10 minutes of some stupid clown saying, "Aye, aye, aye"...GMAFB!) and Terry Fator was probably $60 bucks cheaper than "O", too.
Honestly, I didn't think any of the Vegas shows were that great. Emril's restaurant at MGM was probably my favorite.
