i HATE those 'Baby on Board' stickers!!!

I dont give a FLIP that you have a baby on board! What do you expect me to do? Drive extra special careful around you just because you have a kid and i dont? What makes your kids life any more important than mine, or yours or anybody elses? Smarmy, smug-faced, ego-centric Mummies driving gas guzzling, 4WD beasts they cant even manoeuvre...
Stella, my boyfriend wants to put one on our car that says "baby is driving." LOL!
Jen M.
lol! thats funny... :-)

i would put something up too, to counter the 'baby on board' brigade, but u know what society thinks about us 'anti-breeders'... i'd probably come back to my car with it all scratched up or something.... *sigh*
Many years ago, I was on a child-free discussion group and when that topic of the "Bay On Board" stickers came up- I wanted to make on of a photo of a baby on a board.

I have a sarcastic sense of humour.

Actually, I believe those stickers are to alert rescuers in case of a crash and the driver cannot let them know there is a baby in the car.
NKB, you're probably right, but they have such a pretentious, "look at me" vibe to them.

Well, that's because we were alive in the late 1980s! We all remember that, in addition to "Baby on Board" placards, you could get, Toddler on Board, Teenager on board, Satanist on Board, Dog on Board, Cat on Board, Tree-Hugger on board, and whatever else. It DID turn from a mere "alert" to a pretentious brag, and then finally to a huge joke.

And I still remember the pretentiousness and the joke-iness when I see them.

Out of curiosity, I went googling and found that snopes.com reports that this is an urban myth. http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/babysign.asp
On another barf-a-rific note... I also found this: Baby on Board maternity belly ring
well that was interesting! Thanks for providing the different perspective NKB...even if JMK found that this was an urban myth, it just goes to show that you shouldnt take everything at face value.

If those signs WERE a safety measure then i could understand, but it does come across as smug and pretentious...

Im gonna get a 'kitty on board' sticker for my car. Galileo LURVES car rides...
The last time I made a confession on this board
things did not go too smoothly
That is an understatement at best.
So I decided that this confession that I plan to make right now, should not cause any problems for anyone here, I HOPE!
Not unless your a die hard Raymond hater, like I was, lol. And if you are? I apologize to you NOW in advance.
And ask that you PLEASE give it a chance, if you have not done so already. And, If you still hate it, that's OK too.
And I don't have a problem with that at all. Of course everyone has their own opinions like duh, Of course I know that to be true. I use to hate this show too. Smile
But now, I must say that after 14 years of listening to people rave about the 1996 hit show
"Everybody Loves Raymond" And totally disliking the fact that the title alone was offensive to me personally Just the fact that it was presumptuous enough to assume that Everybody is Everybody. And of course, I am not just everybody. So, I refused to like it on that principal alone. Bottom line is, I just never got into that show period.
I never saw the character appeal to it either.
I never cared for Doris Roberts, her style always reminded me of my own mother.
And I always thought Raymond himself was a milk toast type guy. So there was no reason for me to like this show at all, let alone love it.
So for 14 years I totally never saw a single episode.
And I totally ignored family & friends when they told me how great it was, and that I should watch it.
I just fluffed it all off, and never saw a single show.

But,Now I CONFESS, that I was totally WRONG about it all.

One day while watching TV. I was bored out of my socks with nothing new to watch. So once again I was channel surfing.
And, I had landed on a rerun of the show on TV Land
So I said to myself, OK wtf let me try it.
And as I was watching it, I actually found myself laughing at the show. I was totally surprised.
And Yes, IMHO I think it IS a funny show.
So now for the past few weeks I have been watching
as much of it as I can.
I never would have believed that of myself.
That I of all people, would be climbing aboard the bandwagon of "Everybody" as in the title of the show.
I always prided myself as saying "I am not everybody
Cause I don't love Raymond," lol.
But now I CONFESS that I do.
He is one funny dude, in a very weird and low key way, lol.
Personally, I love Ray Romano. If you've never seen his stand-up, do. He's actually pretty funny.

Thanks Bittercat I will have to check that out some time.
Thanks for the tip Smile
hmmm, nope i still hate Everybody loves Raymond...its HIS family that drives me nuts. I would just kick them into next week i get so mad at them! And Ray is a whiny, spineless mummies boy.

I feel sorry for Debra and the brother and im pretty happy that the show isnt on anymore :-P

But yeah, given the oppurtunity to see the actual Ray Romano show live, i wouldnt mind. I think he would be funnier as a standup...

Stella: ITA on everything you said about the characters on this show. But to me that is what makes it so funny, lol.
The mother on this show, hits very close to home with me.
So, that is why I can relate to it. And FYI this show lives on forever on TVLAND.. Can you say syndication? LOL

And Yes I would love to see RR due a stand up bit sometime.
I am sure he would be awesome. Smile
OK. I love my boyfriend's family overall, but he has one relative I CANNOT STAND. Would go into more detail, but you never know who can see these posts.

I don't know why they put up with this person. I sure as fuck won't!

I have problems with some of my husbands family. Well, just one person and particular and it's just because they're so spoiled they think they deserve things handed to them and wants everyone to treat them like royalty.

I understand about not wanting to say much. Feels good to get it out somewhat though.

Yeah, I can totally relate. The worst part of DH: his annoying family members. Just the other day the one I hate most decided to make a bad situation worse for another family member by being a gossip-monger. I'd really love to slap her. Angryfire

You ain't just Whistling Dixie melsie, Sadly being the eldest lol I got you all beat!
My MIL is a Pathological liar, hubbys cross to bare LOL..Oh YES that feels good to get that out.. Sad but oh so true.
(Details maybe on another thread) Smile
The family is well aware of the problem. The person will not even see a doctor and get help. I'm pretty sure it's borderline personality disorder. Several people have confronted this person, but the person just tells the other person to fuck off and walks out, and they don't hear from them for a while.

We discussed it as a family the other night after dinner. Problem is, this person triggers my anxiety like mad. I was wound up half of yesterday over it.

My strategy will be to be cordial but distant. I will never be nasty to the person, but I will not go out of my way to be their pal, either.

It just hurts me to see how the family tiptoes around the person, walking on eggshells, trying not to set them off. The person is just lucky they are not one of MY relatives, that's all I'm saying.

Feels good to get that off my chest.
